I got this shot of an adult Blue Tit. I like it as I got the bird staying still and perched nicely on the branch.

Had an amazing morning at the beach. The shore was covered in birds migrating. So many it was tough getting an uncluttered shot. I spotted this Adult Peregrine Falcon way out in the distance and waited till it got closer. It did and this shot is uncropped. I check my lens and it was just short of 30 feet away. I got shots of two adults today. I think this is the same one Bob and Judy got the other day and Lynne got a few years back. It is registered in Wildwood, NJ

Stone Harbor Point, NJ.

”Drilus flavescens” is one of the most extreme cases of sexual dimorphism in insects. The females of this beetle look like a caterpillar – so called larviform females – completely lacking wings and other adult characters. Adult males are approximately 10 millimetres long. They have long comb-shaped antennas, probably utilized for detecting pheromones of females.

One of my favorite birds, the Hermit Thrush, is migrating through The Poconos currently.

This one was photographed in the yard yesterday morning, and was just giving its "chuck" call.

In the coming months their ethereal songs will be resonating throughout the forests around my woodland home.

In this shot, an adult White-headed pigeon on the left, with a juvenile on the right. While these birds are said to be very quiet and elusive, and to be often found alone, in pairs, or in small flocks, I know them to be gregarious, very social and to gather in flocks of two dozen or more. They descend on my yard, eat everything in sight and disappear.

6.1.2020, Salisbury Plain, South Georgia.

King penguins form huge breeding colonies; for example, the colony on South Georgia Island at Salisbury Plain holds over 100,000 breeding pairs and the colony at St. Andrew's Bay over 100,000 birds. Because of the very long breeding cycle, colonies are continuously occupied year-round with both adult birds and chicks.

The king penguin feeds its chicks by eating fish, digesting it slightly and regurgitating the food into the chick's mouth.

Because of their large size, king penguin chicks take 14–16 months before they are ready to go to sea. This is markedly different from smaller penguins, who rear their chicks through a single summer when food is plentiful. King penguins time their mating so the chicks will develop over the harshest season for fishing. In this way, by the time the young penguins are finally mature enough to leave their parents, it is summer when food is plentiful and conditions are more favorable for the young to survive alone at sea.

In addition to the Yellow-rumped Warblers, we saw a lot of Cedar Waxwings eating the Cedar berries. In fact that is where part of their name comes from. From allaboutbirds.org: "The birds’ name derives from their appetite for cedar berries in winter." The bird pictured here is an immature bird as evident by the prominent streaking on the breast and faint looking black mask as compared to an adult. Anoka County, MN 10/04/20

There's no doubt that a fully mature Gannet, with its stunning yellow head & white plumage, is a beautiful & elegant bird. During a recent visit to RSPB Bempton cliffs, I was also taken with how visually striking these black & white sub-adults are.

I hope that 2009 brings you everything that makes you feel chipper. Here's an article about the chipping sparrow. As is often the case, this one was shot through my office window. It was a gray day.

I hope to catch up with you later. Thank you for visiting.
