I fused two different Gary Godel works together to make this whimsical hiking poster. I changed the locations he used to Colorado as well. Created in Adobe Illustrator.

This is one moment from the book Peig by Peig Sayers.
When Peig was seven, her older brother married Cait Boland who she says was fiery tempered and apt to flare up. Whatever her father did he could not make her happy. Hed do one thing and shed demand the other.... Peig says her father had greater concerns that gave him seemingly "a stone heart" because he did not engage her but just said it was a shame she didnt have more sense.
Peig concludes with an old proverb that says there is no point in talking to such a sharp tongued person (like her sister-in-law). ie. its like striking iron with a piece of hair.

Ive redrawn this.... another version... can you spot the differences? darker curtains and a few minor tweaks here and there. then zapped the whole thing in illustrator. its not as clean as I would like but its still slightly more successful than the first one.
The book takes place in the 19th century but I have updated my illustrations to look more like the present.

#1 in my summer series. This summer I'm going to be doing a lot of illustrations, and I'm going to start numbering them from here. A lot of the illustrations are going to be book illustrations in preparation for what I'm pretty sure will be my senior thesis.
If you've never read the book, "The Witches" by Roald Dahl it is probably one of my favorites. Not to mention the movie that came out in my childhood was pretty faithful to the book. I think I like the relationship between the retired witch hunter Grandmama and her Grandson the most. Very appropriate timing for Mother's Day, I think.
