I take a photo every time I stop painting, sometimes on my scheduled break after an hour and sometimes just for that day. Picking which photo to put up sometimes is difficult.

Morocco.

Amtoudi (Anti Atlas).

One of the most fascinating aspects of Amtoudi, which sets it apart from other oasis settlements, is the ancient grain storage facility, or agadir, perched high up on a hill overlooking the village. It is considered to be both the oldest and most well preserved agadir in North Africa and is well worth the visit, especially for travelers who are interested in the history of Morocco. Although this 800-year old granary is no longer in use, in the past it was of great value as it stored the grain that could mean life or death for the inhabitants of an area where rain is very scarce. However, bandits and rival tribes also had to eat, and would often invade villages with agadirs in an effort to help themselves to the stored provisions. The position of the agadir of Amtoudi village made this a very difficult task for would-be thieves, as visitors will come to appreciate.

Local guides are keen to show visitors their beautiful village from the vantage point of the agadir. To get there, you can either hike along the narrow rocky trail, or you can make the ascent on the back of a mule or a donkey. Although the journey may look quite daunting, it is safe enough, with the locals and their patient steeds quite accustomed to the route. Once you reach your destination, the view alone is worth the trip.

The agadir itself has been restored and added to over the centuries, with the basic structure being 800 years old. It is likely that the lack of rain in the area is a contributing factor to its preservation. The guide on duty will point out interesting features of the structure, such as the lockable gate, the unusual ventilation system and methods that were used for crushing grain.

Another day on the deck. Lots of snow, yesterday. It is still snowing.

The deck has been invaded by Juncos. I've worked it, hard. I've put about 700 Junco shots into file. That's just the keepers!

So, today, I have more light snow and lots of Juncos...

Time to play a bit! I spent this morning working at capturing shots of the birds in flight. I got a number of what I consider nice shots. I know that not everyone shares my taste in images.

Here is one of them. What do you think?

Took the bus in to Glasgow on this beautiful sunny day and luckily I took a camera with me. Managed this photo which is quite a departure from my usual, but no tripod, no long lenses and no heavy bag to lug around I was happy.

Wish all my friends a Merry Christmas and a healthy New Year

Yours Pat

24th Annual Chariot festival of Sri Mayurapathy Paththirakaali temple is held today (6th of August 2011) in Colombo amidst heavy downpour. Five wooden carved chariots parade through the streets of Bambalapitty (Colombo 04) and Wellawatte (Colombo 06).

Devotees dressed elegantly and took part in religious rituals such as carrying clay pots of camphor, rolling themselves on the ground, smashing coconuts and hanging on hooks (Kaavadi ~ Men only). Few devotees who fulfill their vows, got into trance and danced on the streets. Devotional songs played throughout the dazzling parade. Traditional and non ~ traditional musical instruments added colour to the festival

I've had these stairs since I was 11 and got them with a Barbie dollhouse. I've had to add books for height for now. I'm thinking of cutting some foam core and stacking it or taking the plastic base off and creating a new base with foam core...
