Shot for Active Assignment Weekly, theme "Low Saturation"
WIT
This weekend the weather was very uninspiring: cold, completely grey sky and foggy conditions. Nevertheless, we went birding close to the sea and found this group of Flamingos enjoying themselves in our nutrient-rich waters. A bit weird to see this group of pink beauties in this dull landscape. Due to the fog, however, even the pink colours were dull.
A beautiful evening for a summer ferry ride.

A little late for Marchikoma, but a fun build nonetheless. Whipped this up while waiting for schoolwork to render over the weekend, mainly from the parts of a disassembled Hibernia build! Really enjoyed getting the chunkiness balanced out, hope you guys enjoy!
Active Assignment Weekly: Abstract
My friend Lance and I went to Wynwood, Miami today since I have so much time off right now (I'm a teacher, and the schools are closed due to coronavirus). I took a whole slew of photos and was surprised to see that some of them might work together to create an abstract. It's a combination of birds, graffiti, Lance's head, light fixtures, and concrete structures.

Early in the morning, unfortunately we didn't find any of this nice species in rest mode.
Later in the morning we did find some which were already very active.
Then, the extra mm's are very handy to capture them when they are active and shyer.

Blue hour at dawn. The halo lights is caused by the back lighting the place use to lit up part of the stupas.
Borobudur is a Buddhist stupa and temple complex in Central Java, Indonesia dating from the 8th century, and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This is one of world's truly great ancient monuments, the single largest Buddhist structure anywhere on earth, and few who visit fail to be taken by both the scale of place, and the remarkable attention to detail that went into the construction. Set as it is in the heart of the verdant Kedu Plain, the backdrop of mighty active volcanoes only enhances the sense of awe and drama.
Like any good tourist, I had to take a picture of this historic monument. It's not anything too brilliant, or magnificent, but it is a quaint, even respectable landmark to commemorate Active World's narrative of when the world was born, and who was its first citizen. There's a bit more that would be interesting to know, such as who this first citizen was in the real world, and what their relation to Active Worlds was. Was this Cy person part of the team that created Active Worlds, or is this the first unique individual that signed up to become a citizen? A lot of questions, just from one statue and its simple homage.
Note: I have come to consider places like Worlds and Active Worlds as being open virtual worlds. These were the pioneers of virtual spaces on the internet, and among the first to quote Snow Crash, even begin to coin 'metaverse' and web3.0 in trying to explain what they are. Therefore, any group that, in a general sense, speaks of themselves as an open world, open life, virtual world, web3.0, or hypergrid, seems appropriate appropriate groups to add them to. After all, these virtual worlds were very much ahead of the game and developed a lot of the aspects that make up our virtual world experiences even to this day. Not only did they have teleportation to different regions, but to different servers, even without utilizing a hypergate, but simply by teleporting to that server, as long as you had that server's coordinates. If you don't agree with this definition, let me know, and I won't post these in your group.

Mount Taranaki, or Mount Egmont, is an active but quiescent stratovolcano in the Taranaki region on the west coast of New Zealand's North Island. The 2518-metre-high mountain is one of the most symmetrical volcanic cones in the world. It is seen here from the Pouakai Range through Mountain Cedar.
Mountain cedar (Libocedrus bidwillii, Pāhautea in Maori) is endemic to New Zealand on both the North and South Islands. It grows at 250–1,200 m altitude in temperate rain forests.
Hiking on the Ahukawakawa Trail from the Ahukawakawa Swamp (centre bottom) to the Pouakai Tops I pass through stands of Mountain Cedar (Libocedrus bidwillii, Pāhautea in Maori). Mountain Cedar is endemic to New Zealand on both the North and South Islands. On the North Island it occurs from Te Aroha southward. It grows at 250–1,200 m altitude in temperate rain forests.
I've watched the sun go down many times on this route, but this one was special providing terrific reflections in the water.

Prompt:
The image portrays a male artist in the act of painting a portrait of a woman. It appears he's painting directly onto a canvas attached to an easel, suggested by the visible wooden edge on the left. The setting is dimly lit, highlighting the intimacy of the scene and drawing the viewer's attention to the interaction between the artist and his subject.
The artist is a young man with tousled dark blonde or light brown hair and a beard. He's seen from a side angle, focused intently on his work. He holds a paintbrush in his hand, applying paint to the canvas depicting the woman's hair. There are smudges of paint on his hand, suggesting active involvement in the painting process. He wears a dark, almost black shirt or top.
The woman, seemingly his muse, has long blonde hair and fair skin. She’s positioned very close to him, her head slightly tilted back. Her eyes are closed, giving an impression of serenity or perhaps deep connection with the artist. Her expression is soft and her lips are slightly parted. Her proximity to the artist and their intense focus create an atmosphere of intimacy and passion. It's almost as though they are about to kiss, adding a layer of romance and intrigue to the scene. The composition places them in the center of the image against a dark background, further emphasizing their connection and the act of artistic creation.

Active Assignment of the Week September 28 – October 5: Paper
For this assignment take photos of paper or things made of paper. There are many items made of paper so let your imagination run. Items could range from a creative display of a single sheet of paper to a great shot of complex origami.
Restriction: No scrapbook pages.
Dare: Go minimalistic or abstract
WIT
See comment below for the steps I followed to get this image. The light in the room was on the low side, so I used the on-board camera flash to avoid blur and keep the page edges crisp and sharp.
Active Assignment Weekly April 25 - May 2: Predominant Color
WIT: Haven't taken a martini shot in a while, so thought I'd do one for the assignment. At a restaurant, ordered a cosmo martini, set it on a divider, that led up to the red wall. In post, cropped to square to accentuate the vanishing point to the drink, and adjusted the colours and light. And drank the martini.
