Active volcano Bromo - one of the most popular volcanoes in Indonesia. The crater Bromo is much easier to look, than other craters of volcanoes. Together with other calmer volcanoes fumed Bromo is a spectacular sight from the lookout on Mount Penandzhakan.

Bromo is an active volcano in Indonesia, part of the Tenger volcanic complex. Located in the east of Java. It has a height of 2392 meters. Bromo Volcano is a part of the Bromo-Tengger-Semeru National Park. The volcano has been in a state of constant activity for the last 20 years, its crater is filled with smoke from active fumaroles.

Pura Besakih lies at the foot of Mt. Agung, an active volcano on the island of Bali. As the center of Bali's Hindi religion, this holy of holies has remained here for centuries despite numerous volcanic eruptions, all of which have spared the huge temple complex that honors Hindu gods.

A beautiful view from Luna Volcan on a warm evening with the sun setting on the flank of the active Tungurahua Volcano.

This horizon pool is located half a kilometer above the town of Banos located in a lush vally in Central Ecuador. From the edge we were able to see ALL the way down to the town.

This town is famous for music, festivals and as the Gateway to the Amazon Rain Forest.

There are many things to explore here on both sides of the valley and there are dozens of waterfalls that sprout throughout the landscape.

A fabulous location for a human with a camera ... and a bit of time :)

Born in 1776, William John Bankes was as a young man an aide-de-camp to the Duke of Wellington and became an active Member of Parliament.

While in residence at Kingston Lacy, William John made many changes, including the installation of the Egyptian obelisk that may be seen in the gardens to this day. One of the first things he did was to plant a beech avenue lining the road from near the house’s entrance drive to beyond Badbury Rings. The road was a turnpike, and the Bankes family enjoyed the revenue from it. The avenue was a birthday gift to William John’s mother, Frances, and there were 365 trees on one side of the road for each day of the year and 366 on the other, for a leap year.

Today the road is the B3082, the main route between Wimborne and Blandford. The trees are not surprisingly showing signs of age and disease. The National Trust have so far replaced some seventy of them with hornbeams, which are just as attractive but are better able to withstand the disadvantages of being alongside a busy road.

The Burrowing Owl (Athene cunicularia) is a tiny but long-legged owl found throughout open landscapes of North and South America. Burrowing Owls can be found in grasslands, rangelands, agricultural areas, deserts, or any other open dry area with low vegetation. They nest and roost in burrows, such as those excavated by prairie dogs (Cynomys spp.). Unlike most owls, Burrowing Owls are often active during the day, although they tend to avoid the midday heat. But like many other kinds of owls, Burrowing Owls do most of their hunting from dusk until dawn, when they can use their night vision and hearing to their advantage. Source: #Wikipedia

Mýrdalsjökull 20210717

Mýrdalsjökull is a glacier in the south of the Icelandic highlands. It is the country's fourth-largest ice cap, covering nearly 600 square kilometers, and its highest peak is almost 1500 meters tall. It is most well-known for sitting atop the notorious and explosive volcano, Katla.

Since 2010, the world has known of the volcano beneath Eyjafjallajökull; after all, it halted European air travel for over a week and stumped news readers everywhere. Few, however, are aware of the much larger volcano right beside it.

Mýrdalsjökull conceals Katla, one of the country’s most active volcanoes, having erupted, on average, once every fifty years since 930 AD. Because of the glacier above it, these eruptions tend to cause enormous ash clouds. It is these ash clouds that lead to flights being grounded, crops and livestock poisoned, and have the potential to change the world’s climate.

The Star of India has survived and thrived through collisions, cyclones, ice, mutiny and has circled the globe 21 times. It was built in England on the Isle of Man in 1863 and arrived in San Diego in 1927. I went to the Broadway Pier the other night and saw the changing face of San Diego’s waterfront, yet through all that the Star of India remains the same.

Stephens' Banded Snakes occur in forests along the coast and ranges of eastern NSW and Qld. They are arboreal, generally hiding in hollows or under bark and are most active nocturnally, but are sometimes observed active in the day.

Deadman's Harbour is a quaint and active fishing village, offering a wonderful view of the Bay of Fundy viewed from New Brunswick's mainland.

Gulls or seagulls are seabirds of the family Laridae in the suborder Lari. They are most closely related to the terns (family Sternidae) and only distantly related to auks, skimmers, and more distantly to the waders. Gulls are typically medium to large birds, usually grey or white, often with black markings on the head or wings. They typically have harsh wailing or squawking calls; stout, longish bills; and webbed feet. Most gulls are ground-nesting carnivores which take live food or scavenge opportunistically, particularly the Larus species. Live food often includes crabs and small fish. Gulls have unhinging jaws which allow them to consume large prey. Gulls are typically coastal or inland species, rarely venturing far out to sea, except for the kittiwakes. S20N_300

Banded Rail (Rallus phillipensis )

I know I probably bore people with endless images of these birds but wish only to highlight peoples awareness of them as a declining species, due in part to local councils who will not stop developing areas where Rail and other rare birds live. This ,results in increased human pressure and better access for predators.Apathy and ignorance is the biggest killer of our native species...

Worth its own weight in gold, this bird fossicks in the lovely late evening light, when they are most active...

📍 Château Gaillard le 10 Octobre 2024

This picture of the October 10th Northern lights was taken almost at the beginning of the event as seen from France.

We drove to Château Gaillard, in Normandy, to escape Paris' light pollution. When getting out of the car we immediately noticed a red glow above the horizon. It was not even 9pm local time, and the aurora was already very active. The rest of the night was even more fantastic!
