Jill and I have a long-running conversation regarding posing for photos. I once told her to act natural, at which point she stared blankly at me because for her that would be natural :) She claims that when someone poses, it is in fact NOT natural but more of a performance of a character of sorts. Last night, I asked her to act natural and she grabbed the sides of the background and showed one eye, much to my delight!

The Erewash Canal in Long Eaton, Derbyshire.
The canal was created following an act of parliament in 1777 with John Varley appointed as engineer and John and James Pinkerton the main contractors, it was completed in 1779 at a cost of £21,000 (£2,252,740 in modern money). It was a commercial success from the start mainly used to transport coal.
The canal's success kept it going far longer than many of its contemporaries in the face of competition from the railways. When the Grand Union Canal Company took over the running of the Erewash in 1932 it was still a going concern. The canal was nationalised in 1947. By this time the closure of feeder canals resulted in a loss of trade and competition from other forms of transport was making itself felt and the last commercial narrowboat delivered its cargo in 1952. In 1962 the British Transport Commission closed the top section of canal. However, it was kept in water to supply the lower half of the canal and it remained navigable.
In 1968 the Erewash Canal Preservation & Development Association (ECP&DA) was formed in response to a threat by the British Waterways Board to close the canal. One of the ECP&DA's achievements was the re-opening of the Great Northern Basin at Langley Mill. This canal basin was the point at which the Cromford, Erewash and Nottingham Canals met. The Langley Mill Boat Company formed in 1974 and based at the Great Northern Basin has cleared and put back into water a short section of the Cromford Canal connected to the basin.
Today the Erewash Canal is fully open and is actively used by pleasure cruisers. The towpath, which follows the eastern bank, carries Route 67 of the National Cycle Network between the Lawrence Street access and Stanton Lock where the cycle route diverges to follow the Nutbrook Valley. The canal is also regularly restocked with fish for anglers, and along the eastern tow path dozens of anglers are often seen.

5. Tightrope Walker
For hundreds of years, acrobats & jugglers have upped the ante by performing their routines suspended high above the ground on a thin wire. As if the very act of walking on a wire 5/8" thick at 40' in the air (minimum) without a net wasn't dangerous enough, these "funambulists" have continually developed routines that truly defy reason.... (which we will learn of later)
Karl Wallenda became a one-man act, performing ever more daring tightrope walks from ever increasing heights & distances. He became famous throughout the 1970s for walking 1,000' across Tallulah Gorge in Georgia, across the roofs of stadiums like the Astrodome, & between two landmark hotels in Miami Beach. It was during a 1978 daredevil performance in San Juan, Puerto Rico, that the 73-year-old tightrope walker fell 120' to the concrete parking lot below, live on camera. (Yes, it is on YouTube.) For a man who risked his life for the thrill of the crowd, he probably wouldn't have wanted it any other way.

"Closing Act:" I had seen so much drama unfold in the otherworldly landscape and dynamic skies just in the final half hour of daylight, that I thought the show was over. But then I turned 180 degrees behind me and saw this, nature's final bow. Bisti Badlands, New Mexico.
Propulsion using the propeller and/or the drum. Braking was also done with the drum, the hand brake acted on the rear skis. Steering with the large steering wheel turning the front skis. 3 litre engine with 75hp.
I don't think it handles very well.

A World War II Lancaster bomber aircraft with the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, prepares for take off on a mission to drop poppies over the newly unveiled Bomber Command Memorial in London.
The unveiling ceremony ended with a flypast by five RAF GR4 Tornado bombers, followed by the Lancaster, which dropped over 800,000 poppies in a symbolic act of remembrance for the 55,573 Bomber aircrew lost.

They're gonna put me in the movies
They're gonna make a big star out of me
We'll make a film about a man that's sad and lonely
And all I have to do is act naturally
This is originally a Buck Owens song, but I prefer Ringo version better.

Prisoner # 0213301
Name: Scot Overbesh
Crime: Treason, Murder of Republic troops, Aspiring to overthrow Republic-mandated control
Database Entry # 3304041: This is the last official data entry of Major Rocc… he gave this to me just before he died. With my trial over, I’ve decided it is time I wrote this down for history… I will share the first part of what he gave me. Immediately before my execution, however, I will share more.
“The commander was dead. Dead as a durasteel can. There was no getting past that. Obviously we had been painted as traitors. I saw a small probe droid that had followed us. Troops would come after us soon. We had no choice but to run. We ran for a long time, in a direction away from where the Republic camp was. We came across a Bakuran village. One of the houses there was bombed out. We were approached by several ragged, weapon toting-villagers. They told us to get out. I then started up a holo-feed of me killing the commander and the moments preceding. That was all I needed to get my point across. However, even if I did need more, I wouldn’t get it. Far, in the distance, was a small squad of heavily laden Republic troops. A commando squad, here to eliminate me and Nightmare company of course- and anyone in between.
‘They’re here for me. Get out while you still can.’
‘This is our war too. It’s time to fight. We know what we got into when you came along. We’re ready to fight.’
We spread out. The unarmed civilians were ushered into the destroyed house. The resistance fighters and Nightmare Company hid. Then, one made a bad move. He was shot in the stomach and collapsed against a column. That was unfortunately enough for the resistance fighters. Blasts broke out. But that wasn’t enough. Droids came pouring in from the other side of the city.
Then I heard a scream- no, three screams. A flash of light; Phantom was blasted out of the bell tower. Apollo was shot in the chest. The commanding officer shot Spectre in the head. It was then that I realized that I had nothing to fight for… yet.”
