Balancing Rocks in the Ottawa River.

Remic Rapids Park is situated on the shore of the Ottawa River, Ottawa, Canada.

To enhance the park’s beauty, artist John Felice Ceprano has created balanced rock sculptures on the river’s edge since 1986. The artist uses fossilized and colourful rocks found on the shore to build these sculptures by hand. They provide a free and exploratory public art experience that complements the park’s natural setting.

With such long legs and an uncooperative tree limb, it takes a balancing act to find the perfect perch to rest upon.

I’ve been collecting beach glass for as long as I can remember!

Piled up for Smile on Saturday theme, Balancing Act.

For me, beauty is valued more than anything - the beauty that is manifest in a curved line or in an act of creativity.

~ Oscar Niemeyer

This is a close up of The Arc, a building I posted recently, and added to the first comment here.

This building was designed by Walter Franci, but I really liked the quote by Brazilian architect, Oscar Niemeyer.

Not sure who this is, but the pose is fantastic. Obviously, I shouldn't come any closer than this... Really made my day! (Squirrels-2021-8015.jpg)

Gradually, with ever decreasing visibility, or by a sudden black-out? Or, by an intentional and stage-managed theatrical act (think of David Bowie's last video showing him disappearing into a cabinet)? How will we be going and disappearing from Flickr? What will happen to the visual wake we are leaving behind? Fuji X-Pro1 plus Fujinon XF 1.4/35.

This Great Blue Heron landed in the top of a cedar tree but the branches were too flimsy to support its weight. So he struggled to maintain his balance. It was rather entertaining to watch for about 30 seconds until it flew off to find a more stable perch.

We observed this fun behavior at The Nature Conservancy's Cheyenne Bottoms Preserve in central Kansas.

Remember Sister Act, this is Sinister Act.👻Happy Halloween!👻

... for the Carnation. It's Act I for the button because it's the first time I've photographed it. :)

The button is French and dates from the 1900s. It's hand painted and has areas of both champlevé and guilloché enamel.

The Grade I Listed Conwy Town Walls which were built along with Conwy Castle by King Edward I between 1283 and 1287 at the combined cost of £15,000, (approximately £7.6 million in today's money). In Conwy, Conwy County, North Wales.

Before the English construction of the town of Conwy, the site was occupied by Aberconwy Abbey, a Cistercian monastery favoured by the Welsh princes. The site also controlled an important crossing point over the river Conwy between the coastal and inland areas of North Wales and was defended for many years by Deganwy Castle. The English kings and Welsh princes had vied for control of the region since the 1070s and the conflict had been renewed during the 13th century, leading to Edward I intervening in North Wales for the second time during his reign in 1282.

Edward invaded with a huge army, pushing north from Carmarthen and westwards from Montgomery and Chester. Edward captured Aberconwy in March 1283 and decided that the location would form the centre of a new county: the abbey would be relocated eight miles inland and a new English castle and walled town would be built on the monastery's former site. The ruined castle of Deganwy was abandoned and never rebuilt. Edward's plan was a colonial enterprise and placing the new town and walls on top of such a high-status native Welsh site was in part a symbolic act to demonstrate English power.

The walls of Conwy were built at around the same time as the castle itself, under the overall supervision of Master James of Saint George, Edward's chief architect in North Wales. Huge amounts of labourers were mobilised from across England for the task, massed at Chester and then brought into Wales for each summer building season.

The walls were declared part of a UNESCO world heritage site in 1986 and are classed as a grade 1 listed building and hold scheduled monument status. They are considered by historians Oliver Creighton and Robert Higham to be "one of the most impressive walled circuits" in Europe.

Who knew that it is so difficult to balance Dolly Mixtures! After multiple collapses I had to enlist the help of my patient engineer husband to build my Dolly Mixture pyramid! Between the builder and the photographer we managed the balancing act!!!!!

For "Smile on Saturday" - theme : "Balancing Act".

...this little lady bug is precariously balanced atop a still life of clear marbles and plastic forks...I think she is looking for her reflection on the shiny surface below!

Whenever I dig into my old stuff the question always creeps into my head, "What would I tell that kid if I could tell him anything?"

You are going to do OK for yourself but in a quiet, unspectacular way. He (I) already knew that. In fact I took that for granted.

You are going to lose people that mean the world to you and you will never stop grieving for them. I knew that too ( we all do ) but I would have never admitted as much, preferring to only recognize those bitter truths as I was being run over by them.

I suppose I couldn't resist giving some sage advice but I wouldn't listen to myself. I remember making a point of not acting on good advice when dispensed by anyone professing to know what life was really about.

All in all it's a good thing time travel isn't possible. Aside from being freaked out by my wrinkly old self showing up to tell me crap I knew but didn't have the courage to act on, I would have been angered that all the suspense and mystery had just been taken out of life. For all the effort that goes into fiction about jumping back or ahead in time I think it is good that we have to crunch along alone without the aid of a nebbish future self showing up every so often to whine and moan about how I'm so lacking in ambition. I'm peeved at myself right now just for thinking up the thought of it.

I first put this together in 2012. Today I thought about it and made an effort to find the original images. 1974 was taken with a Canon F1 and a 50mm f1.4. 2012 was taken with a Pentax K10D and the 18-55 kit lens. In 2012 I used Gimp to stack the images. This time around I used Affinity Photo.

Balancing Act - This backyard Bobcat may not be wearing Air Jordans, but he's certainly got hops like a prime MJ!

Bobcats have longer hind legs than front legs and it's amazing how much jumping power they can generate from a standstill.

Recently, I've enjoyed capturing images of wildlife in urban settings. I think there's great value to showing how wildlife navigates the built environment and showcasing their importance to urban ecosystems.
