Summer Painting Project 2021.
Acrylic on Canvas. 13" in Diameter.
One of those pieces you call "gifts". It all just happened and was finalized in the first go at it. It magically appeared just as you see it here. The title refers to Darren Arranofsky's film, "The Fountain".

I remember
bunches of grapes
late in the summer
dusty in twilight
bare feet
on grass blades
my sisters and I
hunting
for treasure
acrylic on canvas
circa 2001
another painting from long ago
I was thinking about memories
the process of their making
the flavour developing
the sip
and I've been away visiting family
where there are still grapevines growing :-)
here's to treasure
and the sip :-)

Summer Painting Project 2021.
Acrylic on Canvas. 12" x 12".
The very best thing that came out of Lockdown for me was returning to painting after a 15 year hiatus. I started back at it in the Summer of 2020 and continued on with it in '21. I can only paint outdoors for a variety of reasons so this work is my "summer project". With a lot more time on my hands it was easy to jump outside on my balcony "studio", fitted with a giant drop sheet, some newspaper and plastic covered patio tables, and get right to it.
The Left Panel and the first canvas painted in the Duo. Several accidents and random occurrences led to the final piece.

These paintings are improvised one the colours have been chosen the sequence of application has been decided. Once this one started to settle into a form I liked very quickly the scene from Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings at The Bridge of Khazad-dum came to mind. I went with it.

Summer 2020 Painting Project. Working with a slightly new method of painting this Summer I learned important things about the technique and how paintings done this way dry. This one dried on my balcony in the fierce heat of July with a fairly hefty wind blowing across it too. This caused the paint to crack or split in unforeseen ways. Completely unintentional, I was nevertheless left with something unique and quite visceral. Another of the many surprises coming out of this technique.
The title refers to a crucial moment in the Indian epic poem, "The Mahabharata", when Bhima finally makes good on his vow to destroy the evil and cruel Dushasana.

This is an acrylic on canvas painting that I just completed. It is uplifting to me to look at this scene; I'm feeling worried and discouraged about the US presidential campaign, all of the deception and lies circulating, I just want Obama to get a clean victory if that is possible.
