This is the majestic lighthouse of Turnberry. It sits on the mainland near Ailsa Craig island and was designed by David and Thomas Stephenson to warn passing vessels from running into Bristo Rock. This rock formation had wrecked many ships throughout the years.

The Northern Lighthouse Board commissioned the structure 1873. It was built in the moat of the 13th century Turnberry castle; thought to be the birthplace of Robert the Bruce in 1274. Since August 30th 1878 it has flashed its white light every 12 seconds (one flash only), helping ships to navigate up to 24 nautical miles away. In line with all the other UK lighthouse’s it was automated in 1986.

The Turnberry lighthouse has been heralded as a legendary beacon to passing ships and - since 2014 - to golfers from across the globe as its now the halfway point on the Trump Turnberry Golf Course.

Standing at 24 metres high, with 76 steps to the top, the Turnberry Lighthouse is more than a beacon on this coastline. Rising out of the mists to greet ships for over a hundred years, and with its impressive presence, this quintessential icon is not only Turnberry's most powerful charms, but also that of Scotland.

This is a long exposure. I used a ND-10 filter. This resulted in a photo at: f11.0, 20 sec, +1.67 and ISO 50.

I choose the composition in such a way that there’s maximum depth in the photo. By using a not too high high aperture, the rocks in the forefront are very crisp and the background is still just in focus. The haze or blurred effect of the seawater surrounding the rocks underlines this effect even more.

Being able to look through the water in the bottom of the photo is an added bonus, or so it is in my humble opinion.

I processed this single shot in Aurora HDR 2018. Especially the balanced lighting of the lighthouse took some effort. Due to it’s white surfaces, it easily become too bright and – thereby – unnatural.

Further post-production was done by the help of PS CC. This included a photo filter and black-and-white layers for balancing the colours, a vib-filter, a high-pass (set at 10) on the lighthouse, a bit of vignetting and I finally added a copyright sign. The latter is, alas, there to stay due to the fact that my photos were frequently copied. So, don't bother commenting on that.

Spring 2018

End of the day. Looking west. Ready for new beginnings in the morning. I always take a second to consider the sunset or sunrise, sunset in this case. I consider how it is setting here, but a new day is arriving for my family across the world. I consider the fading light and the day that they might have ahead of them and even though my day is dimming here, the love I have for them has only grown brighter. I miss them and do not see them nearly enough, but each day this little meditation helps to ease some of that.

This HDR consist of 3 individual photos: -2, 0 and +2 stops. The initial HDR merging was done with Aurora HDR 2018. In Aurora I used several pre-sets and varied on that. The final post production was done with PS CC. This because the layers tools and actions in Aurora are still a bit rough compared to PS. Finally I included a copyright watermark. The latter is, alas, there to stay due to the fact that my photos were frequently copied. So, don't bother commenting on that.

This is a single long exposure shot I made by using a tripod. F5.6, 13 secs, -1/3, 100 ISO. Post-production included a mix of treatments in Aurora HDR 2018 and PS CC. I used Aurora to emphasize the colour range of the sunset. In Photoshop I balanced the lighting and colouring. Finally I included a copyright watermark. The latter is, alas, there to stay due to the fact that my photos were frequently copied. So, don't bother commenting on that.

"By the time her work brought her back to the United States, Nancy Scheper-Hughes had spent more than a decade tracking the illegal sale of human organs across the globe. Posing as a medical doctor in some places and a would-be kidney buyer in others, she had linked gangsters, clergymen and surgeons in a trail that led from South Africa, Brazil and other developing nations all the way back to some of her own country's best medical facilities" (Interlandi 2009 p.1).

In collaboration with Shalom and the All India Christian Federation, the event aimed to provide attendees with an opportunity to "experience the power of faith." Within a week, the event had received over one hundred thousand registrations, with spiritual leaders from across the globe showing their intent to join.

Quoting Mr. Lukau, he said, "I am deeply saddened by the cancellation of the 'Pray for India' event. As an apostle of faith, I was excited to share my message of hope and spiritual growth with the people of India. However, I understand and respect the decision to cancel the event due to the prevailing security concerns. My prayers are with the people of India during this sensitive time, and I stand in solidarity with them.”

The cancellation comes after recent security breaches in the parliament, which has put the entire state of Karnataka on high alert. Concerns over the safety and security of the attendees prompted the organizers to make the difficult decision to cancel the event. This is an unfortunate turn of events for both the organizers and the attendees who were eagerly looking forward to the conference.

"We deeply regret the cancellation of the 'Pray for India' event, but the safety and security of our attendees are of utmost importance to us," said the spokesperson of Shalom. "We will continue to work with the authorities to ensure that future events can be organized successfully without compromising the safety of our participants."
