This was intended to be part of the Stand Up for Peace Challenge last week but it took me a bit to figure out :D It's about the best homage I could to the Indian Holi Festival. For those that don't know and in short it's basically a festival to celebrate love. After I thought about the challenge a bit, I got to thinking: standin up for peace is awesome, but even better if you just applied this to all aspects of your life. Stop hating on others and stop hating on yourself. If everyone took a grip more time putting others before their own insecurities, then maybe there would be no need to stand up for peace. Maybe we would already have achieved it.
RKO_3803. How extraordinary is it to watch these beautiful and colorful little birds doing their diving act!
This male Common Kingfisher achieved its goal and had a wonderful, though relatively small, meal!
It was a challenge (and objective) to get some nice shots of the diving Kingfisher and I guess I too achieved my objectives.

Yesterday I posted a photograph of an old barn that I had photographed years ago. Today, I wanted to share a little bit of the awesome detail of this rustic structure. What really drew my eye to this boarded up window was the electricity wire running across the side of the building, through the boarded window and then to the ground. I love black and white photography because of how light and shadows enhance detail and texture, along with shapes and patterns, as seen on these weathered boards,. Having spent time years ago in a black and white darkroom, I now really appreciate digital editing because of the tools available, and the amount of control one has in processing a monochrome photograph. I actually find I spend more time editing a black and white image to achieve just the right tonality.
Stourhead is a 2,650-acre estate at the source of the River Stour in the southwest of Wiltshire, extending into Somerset.
The gardens were laid out between 1741 and 1780 in a classical 18th-century design set around a large lake, achieved by damming a small stream so the lake is artificially created. Following a path around the lake is meant to evoke a journey similar to that of Aeneas's descent in to the underworld.
Lakeside features include the five-arched Palladian Bridge at the eastern extremity of the lake
Prairie Warbler singing at the top of his lungs that rising buzzy bee metallic tune. Well, my 2018 warbler campaign is about done. Not enough time this Spring to achieve the goals I had set forth for warblers. The Cerulean and Blackburnian will have to wait until next season. On to shorebirds and waders! Please view large for best experience.
Once again, thanks to all who drop by my Photostream. Your faves and comments are much appreciated ~

Camera obscura (plural camera obscura or camerae obscurae from Latin, meaning "dark room": camera "(vaulted) chamber or room," and obscura "darkened, dark"), also referred to as pinhole image, is the natural optical phenomenon that occurs when an image of a scene at the other side of a screen (or for instance a wall) is projected through a small hole in that screen, as a reversed and inverted image (left to right and upside down) on a surface opposite to the opening. The surroundings of the projected image have to be relatively dark for the image to be clear, so many historical camera obscura experiments were performed in dark rooms.
The term "camera obscura" also refers to constructions or devices that make use of the principle within a box, tent or room. Camerae obscurae with a lens in the opening have been used since the second half of the 16th century and became popular as an aid for drawing and painting. The camera obscura box was developed further into the photographic camera in the first half of the 19th century when camera obscura boxes were used to expose light-sensitive materials to the projected image.
The camera obscura was used as a means to study eclipses, without the risk of damaging the eyes by looking into the sun directly. As a drawing aid, the camera obscura allowed tracing the projected image to produce a highly accurate representation, especially appreciated as an easy way to achieve a proper graphical perspective.
A camera obscura device without a lens but with a very small hole is sometimes referred to as a "pinhole camera", although this more often refers to simple (home-made) lens-less cameras in which photographic film or photographic paper is used.
The earliest known written record of the camera obscura is to be found in Chinese writings called Mozi and dated to the 4th century BCE, traditionally ascribed to and named for Mozi (circa 470 BCE-circa 391 BCE), a Han Chinese philosopher and the founder of Mohist School of Logic. In these writings it is explained how the inverted image in a "collecting-point" or "treasure house" is inverted by an intersecting point (a pinhole) that collected the (rays of) light.
The Greek philosopher Aristotle (384-322 BCE), or possibly a follower of his ideas, touched upon the subject in the work Problems - Book XV, asking:
"Why is it that when the sun passes through quadri-laterals, as for instance in wickerwork, it does not produce a figure rectangular in shape but circular?”
and further on:
“Why is it that an eclipse of the sun, if one looks at it through a sieve or through leaves, such as a plane-tree or other broadleaved tree, or if one joins the fingers of one hand over the fingers of the other, the rays are crescent-shaped where they reach the earth? Is it for the same reason as that when light shines through a rectangular peep-hole, it appears circular in the form of a cone?"
Many philosophers and scientists of the Western world would ponder this question before it became accepted that the circular and crescent-shapes described in this "problem" were actually pinhole image projections of the sun. Although a projected image will have the shape of the aperture when the light source, aperture and projection plane are close together, the projected image will have the shape of the light source when they are further apart.

a work by Adrian Schiess from the 90s...
the mirrored, reflective almost white floor of the museum here helps to achieve an almost seamless transition between the shimmering art and the space, the play of the ceiling lights fascinated me ...
it seems to be large painted rectangular wooden panels (or Aludibond) that simply go in T-shape in the pastel shades of orange to pink, blue gray and black tones, the group is called Winter and leaves in the room on the right side hardly any space to circle the work of art, because it directly abuts the window and the T-arm in the middle of the room goes to the wall ...
I got directly into trouble with the supervisor, who would not let me walk the narrow rest of the room along the wall to the center, and only after my objection that I am accustomed to walking carefully close to millions of dollars worth of art without damaging it, he reluctantly let me ...
which led to the fact that I did not dare to align myself and the camera correctly, especially since he continued to remonstrate that I would have no chance with backlight ...
but just the overexposure was my goal and the later aligned pictures did not please me as well as this fought for first "provisional" photo with history (with a story) ... especially since I had to look that the supervisor just did not go into my composing space ...
;-) ...

As with many grasshoppers in various families, the males are smaller than the females and ride on them long before copulation. They remain there during the period in which the female achieves sexual receptiveness. Similar strategies are common in vertebrates such as some amphibians, as well as various invertebrates, where the males attempt to keep rivals from mating with the female. (From Wikipedia)

The combination of golden light and wooden fencing helped to create a western look to this image. Add to that a white streak in the sky in the form of a cloud, and balance was achieved. I wanted to find the correct angle that would line up the fence with the ridge. That had me fumbling about while standing on an uneven drop off.
Alone on this ridge, there was plenty of time to work uninterrupted. Only the golden light served as my hour glass. Like the sands that would flow through the apex, light too would continue to change, until absent.
Sieben kecke Schnirkelschnecken
saßen einst auf einem Stecken,
machten dort auf ihrem Sitze
kecke Schnirkelschneckenwitze.
Lachten alle so:
"Ho, ho, ho, ho, ho!"
Doch vor lauter Ho-ho-Lachen,
Schnirkelschneckenwitze-Machen,
fielen sie von ihrem Stecken:
alle sieben Schnirkelschnecken.
Liegen alle da.

A little while ago my dear friend Syd Specter gave me a sneak peek at a new, as yet unreleased pack of skies. It's called 'Warm Sun', I've been playing with them all week and I just have to say I am so, so impressed with the level of detail in them. The clouds are so beautifully rendered, they offer layers of depth I'm not sure I could have achieved previously without blending numerous skies together. As an artist she really does just keep getting better and better. I am a very lucky bork to have such a talented friend.

Sometimes, you might wonder if you can achieve your projects, you might think you will never make it, you might think you're not good enough to make it. Trust me, you are stronger than you think. If you really want it, you will make it, don't give up, trust yourself ! Like that little pony showing how strong she can be if a big drafty horse come towards her, she'll fight herself and show she's strong ! Never underestimate yourself.

The little man stands up for the future…
I live in the United States of America, and, while I’d never tell anyone who to vote for, I find the pivotal moment before us too important to sit quietly on the sidelines. No matter where you live, I hope you have the ability to stand up for what you believe in, to use your voice, to use your power for good, and, right now in my country, to get out and vote.
I believe in working together to build a world founded on kindness, compassion, connection and community. I believe character matters. I believe we should lift one another up and treat each other with dignity by showing respect even if we disagree. I believe everyone has the right to make decisions about what happens to their body, and everyone has the right to choose who they love. I believe in a world where everyone can pursue their dreams and where we help one another to achieve them, a world where we bring people together through understanding. I believe in freedom, and the best way to be more free is to grant more freedom to others.
If, like me, you have this important right, the right to vote,
please do, and stand up for your future.

Getting up early in the morning long before sunrise can be well worth the effort – even in New England winter. I had this shot in mind for a while and the clouds looked quite right for what I wanted to achieve.
I made the photo just a few steps away from Copley Square in Boston’s Back Bay neighborhood. It shows an impressive 25 floor post-modern building on Boylston Street that reaches nearly 330 foot (100 meter) up into the sky.

View of one of the entrances to the Goya Metro station in Madrid, Spain.
In this corner of the Salamanca district, Madrid, three streets meet, Calle de Alcalá, which linked the capital of Spain with the town of Alcalá (ancient Roman Complutum) and which cuts several streets in this district diagonally.
There also meet Goya painter street and general Narváez street, which at that intersection changes its name and is then called Conde de Peñalver street, which was previously called Torrijos street. (Source: Wikipedia)
The photo was taken with the new 7Artisans 9mm F5.6 lens, version for Z mount, which is super wide angle lens, but not fisheye, but rather follows the concept of a "rectilinear" lens.
It is a lens that allows for great creativity, has a good luminosity and has great sharpness.
The clarity is such that I have had to blur the license plates of several cars.
Since there are no connection pins with the camera, there is no exchange of aperture information, nor does it have autofocus.
In this case, despite the clouds, the luminosity was so high that, even using ISO 64 and an exposure time of 1/80 sec, I had to close the diaphragm to F8 to achieve a correct exposure.

Couldn't think of a great title for this. I've had this little place in my sights for quite some time but had to have the right conditions to achieve the effect I was after. Last Monday was my chance with the sticky snow that makes everything so beautiful and an overcast, flat sky.
My style is definitely schizophrenic; it does change from day to day a lot. It depends on my mood: sometimes I'll be going through a girly, childlike stage and wear a pretty lace dress with a bow in my hair. Then sometimes I'll be moody and just wear black.

If you believe Elo wasnt coming back ! well see the little ears =P well that time wanted a portrait of her moody... and it wasnt that easy.. I hope so I achieve it!
Hugs lady and see you soon !

The Palitana temples of Jainism are located on Shatrunjaya by the city of Palitana in Bhavnagar district, Gujarat, India. The city of the same name, known previously as Padliptapur, has been nicknamed "City of Temples". Along with Shikharji in the state of Jharkhand, the two sites are considered the holiest of all pilgrimage places by the Jain community. As the temple-city was built to be an abode for the divine, no one is allowed to stay overnight, including the priests. Every Jain believes that a visit to this group of temples is essential as a once in a life time chance to achieve nirvana or salvation.
This site on Shatrunjaya hill is considered sacred by Jains and have hundreds of temples. There are approximately 863 marble-carved temples on the hills. The main temple is reached by stepping up 3500 steps. It is said that 23 tirthankaras (a human being who helps in achieving liberation and enlightenment), except Neminatha (a liberated soul which has destroyed all of its karma), sanctified the hill by their visits. The main temple is dedicated to Rishabha, the first tirthankara; it is the holiest shrine for the Svetambara Murtipujaka sect.
This hummer made several trips to the feeder and was driven off by other hummers. Every time it would go back to this branch, rest for about 15 to 30 seconds and make another attempt at getting some sugar water. This was a long shot and I was surprised to achieve this detail at that distance.

Taken for Saturday Self Challenge - 05/12/2020 - Shadowplay .
Well this week apart half a day with a short spell of sunshine ( when I was down at the dump ! ) there have not been any shadows to work with , so it had to be an indoor set up job . A couple of total failures including a pair of model Native American Indians which I had grand plans of putting them together with one flipped horizontally so the shadows were falling in different directions but fell down at the join . So after a few tries it came down to the swan and the fairy - the swan won and the fairy is in the first comment box , fair to say a little bit of influence from JoLynne's shot from last week as to presentation - thanks JoLynne .
and so to a song or two
First up one called " Shadowplay " by Rory Gallagher - who got mentioned by Jimi Hendrix in an interview -------------
When Mike Douglas asked Jimi "What's it was like to be the best rock guitarist in the world?" Jimi responded "I don't know, you'll have to ask Rory Gallagher" Despite the fact Rory toured the world and sold over 30 million albums, he never achieved mainstream fame.
And to make sure you are not nodding off --------------
