Acer seeds; nature's little helicopters.

If you like to gamble, I tell you I'm your man

You win some, lose some, it's all the same to me

The pleasure is to play, it makes no difference what you say

I don't share your greed, the only card I need is

The Ace of Spades

The Ace of Spades

Playing for the high one, dancing with the devil

Going with the flow, it's all a game to me

Seven or Eleven, snake eyes watching you

Double up or quit, double stake or split

The Ace of Spades

The Ace of Spades

You know I'm born to lose, and gambling's for fools

But that's the way I like it, baby, I don't wanna live forever

And don't forget the joker!

Pushing up the ante, I know you got to see me

Read 'em and weep, the dead man's hand again

I see it in your eyes, take one look and die

The only thing you see, you know it's gonna be

The Ace of Spades

backdrop - "the Ace"

I'm very fortunate to have this tree at my place of work, especially at this time of year. I don't like the cold, nor the short days, but this tree reminds me to keep looking for the positives in every season of life.

we have a few acer trees in the garden and every year I feel compelled to capture their beauty in a photograph, especially early spring and autumn :)

Just love photographing these 2 acers that are in my garden; always a picture to be made :)

My Acer Palmatum 'Senkaki' has commenced operations for spring and summer, competing against the purple and crimson colours of the surrounding Acers here in my mini Japanese Maple land, at Cherrybrook, in northern Sydney.

Japanese Maple (Acer Osakazuki)

Ever since you've been my ace of hearts

Hit me like a freight train in the dark

Come on baby take me far away

I wanna get so lost in the great escape

"Such a hand is said to have been held by Old West folk hero, lawman, and gunfighter Wild Bill Hickok when he was murdered. No contemporaneous source records this hand's exact cards, but Frank Wilstach's 1926 book Wild Bill Hickok: The Prince of Pistoleers led to the popular modern conception of the "dead man's hand" as containing pairs of black aces and black eights. In Hickok's case these would have been combined with an unknown hole card."

Leaves after the first frosty night in the autumn.

A not fully developed leaf, hence it has not the typical shape.

Acer Palmatum Summer Gold showing its Autumn colours.

Acer leaf in all it's Autumn glory with the seeds just waiting to drop and form beautiful new seedling trees. Acers are one of the most colourful trees, with their changing colours throughout the year.

At RHS Wisley there is an avenue of Bonsai. This one is over 70 years old yet stands less than a metre tall. Perfect in its Autumn colours.

Ospreys such as this one are unique among North American raptors for their ability to dive into water to catch fish, which is their primary food source. And they are very good at it. "Over several studies, Ospreys caught fish on at least 1 in every 4 dives, with success rates sometimes as high as 70 percent," according to AllAboutBirds.org. This bird was photographed near the Fox River in Northern Illinois.

Acer platanoides.

The flowers are in corymbs of 15–30 together, yellow to yellow-green with five sepals and five petals 3–4 mm (0–1⁄4 in) long; flowering occurs in early spring before the new leaves emerge.

Norway maple is a deciduous broadleaf tree and can grow to 25m. The bark is grey with fine ridges, and the twigs are slender and brown with tiny white spots.

This is this trees normal colors and are pretty spectacular in sunlight.

I didn't mean to post both these, but I really cant decide which version I prefer - can you help me please?

Lovely little Acer still full of reds in Peckham Rye Park today.

Acers are one of my favourite trees. They have so much interest from the shape of the leaves to the wonderful changes colours through the seasons. I captured these ones during Spring as they were on the turn to their Summer colour

I had a few backlit images ready to choose from for Smile on Saturday, including this shot of our acer in the garden.

When I checked the challenge, I found that the subject had to be white!

So here is one of my non-entries for Smile on Saturday this week - maybe you are smiling!

A beautiful acer tree and a delightful blue sky.

Better viewed large and thank you for your favourites. :)
