I stayed in a hotel where everything was painted a stark white. The shower curtain was a bright orange which reflected onto the wall and caught my eye.
When the Ace Hotel and the Kennedy School both turned out to be booked while we were in Portland, we decided to find even cooler accommodations for after we were back in Seattle. Yes, that's right, folks. We stayed in a treehouse. Which was perched over a rushing river. This was before the thunder and lightning rainstorm started. It was the most incredible accommodation I have ever enjoyed, enhanced by the intense weather… it was fully heated and superluxe and just totally magic. Happy pseudo-honeymoon to us!

The Breslin, a restaurant in the Manhattan's historic Ace Hotel, is surprisingly colourful for a place with black ceramic ceiling tiles.

The Westward Ho in Las Vegas opened in 1963 and was the first in a chain of Westward Ho Motels (it closed in 2005). The Palm Springs Westward Ho (which opened in 1965) lives on as the ACE Hotel www.acehotel.com/palmsprings and the San Diego Westward Ho (1968), the Best Western Seven Seas?
