The absorption of light and colour in search of tone and texture is the pursuit of photography where painting with light often leads us into darkness. These pictures were created as I tested a new camera. When I first got my Canon 550D I thought that it was so light and well fitting in the hand that I could capture any lighting conditions. True there are some leaps and bounds for technology yet to perform to allow my unsteady hands to capture the lowest light conditions in sparkling clarity. I am sure that some of these technological leaps and bounds are occurring even as I type. It makes my hands tremble with anticipation to think of testing the next stable releases of stabilizing cameras with even lower light sensitive sensors.

When I read our lecture material this week about the absorption of the heat generated by the sun, I immediately thought of the significant amount of heat that is absorbed by airports. This photo was taken just before I boarded this plane today from Tampa back to NYC. On hot days, you can literally see the energy shimmering on the tarmac. In fact, studies have shown that airports are considerably hotter than their surrounding areas during the day as they absorb heat energy and at night as it dissipates it.
Also, the plane is an example of a man-made device that is burning energy that was created as much as 400 million years ago in the form of plant material that has decomposed into fossil fuels that the jet utilizes and releases as carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.
In the background, one can see the beginning of the marshy area that surrounds part of the Tampa airport – a complex environment that features the interaction between producers and consumers.

Desiccant dehumidifiers, also can be called Desiccant Rotor dehumidifiers. This type is also known as adsorption type dehumidifiers. The technology of this series is absorbing the moisture content by an adsorbent such as silica gel.
How Desiccant Dehumidifiers work
Desiccant Rotor dehumidifiers remove the humid the air and provide the relative dry air by a rotating desiccant silica-gel wheel, which is continuously re-dried again. In this series, the most important component is the desiccant rotor. It is formed as honeycomb, usually making of silica gel or molecular. When the process air passes into the 3/4 flutes of the wheel, it is absorbed by the desiccant. At the same time, a heated air stream， called the reactivation air, pass through the 1/4 flutes, warms the desiccant by evaporating the moisture within. Thus, the desiccant rotor recovers the dehumidification capability.

Suspended time and absorption are central in our performative work. We perform „engrossed in an activity as if in denial of an audience“. We keep still. We move according to a choreographed path. My photo walk of June 8, 2023 in Lyon, France by a stunning summer day with my Nikon F SLR camera (circa 1964-1965). The guiding idea was to use a circular polarizing filter with a color negative film for all outdoor pictures. I did my photo session between about 2pm to 5pm. The temperature reached 33°C in the afternoon and the atmosphere was very clear and dry.
My 60's Nikon F was equipped with its normal lens Nippon Kogaku Nikkor-S 1:2 f=5cm with is lighter than my later period Nikkor-S version 1:1.4 f=50mm from the early 70's. The lens was equipped with the original Nikkor F metal shade hood specific of the 1:2 f=5cm. For all outdoor views the lens was also equipped with a Hakura 52mm polarizing filter oriented for the best color saturation.
I used a Fujifilm 200 36-exposure negative color film (this film is made in the USA and given with the same technical characteristics of Kodak Gold 200). It was exposed for 50 ISO to compensate the polarizing filter absorption, using an Autometer III Minolta lightmeter fitted with a 10° finder for selective measurements privileging the shadow areas.

After exposure, the film was developped by a local lab service using the C-41 protocol. The film was then digitalized using a Sony A7 body fitted to a Minolta Slide Duplicator installed on a Minolta Auto Bellows III with a lens Minolta Bellow Macro Rokkor 50mm f/3.5. The RAW files obtained were processed without intermediate files in LR and edited to the final jpeg pictures.
All views of the film are presented in the dedicated album either in the printed framed versions and unframed full-size jpeg accompanied by some documentary smartphone Vivo Y76 color pictures.
About the camera and the lens :
This exemplary of Nikon F (engraved "Nippon Kogaku Tokyo") has a serial number beginning by 658xxxx and was consequently manufactured in the mother Oi Nikon factory in Tokyo, Japan, between Dec. 1964 and April 1965. I bought the camera in Feb. 2022 from Japan. The Nikon F body came with the normal lens Nikkor-S 1:2 f=5 cm, branded "Nippon Kogagu". For the photo session the body was equipped with the body shell of a late Nikon F CTT ever ready bag. This body shell holds the original leather neck strap and is made of a metallic shell covered outside by a black leather and a dark-red velvet inside.
