Outside the window of my Southwest Airlines flight to Tampa, Florida.

happy weekend, dear flick friends :))))

Using my mobile camera to get the typical rotorblade effect on this shot I took from the window of a tiny plane we used to cross from Kirkwall on Orkney to Edinburgh.

It is better to have your head in the clouds, and know where you are... than to breathe the clearer atmosphere below them, and think that you are in paradise.

Explore Worthy, Challenge 115 - Above The Clouds (2020 Art)

Our flight back home from Salt Lake City provided an amazing horizon view during sunset but was also very bumpy as there were storms in the middle of the country. When I shot this I also noticed lighting strikes coming out of clouds in the distance. A bit unnerving. The pilots did the best they could but there was no “smoother” air to be found. My son thought it was was exciting but I had to shut my eyes and take some deep breaths. Since I have home for almost a month now I’ll be going back out for some New England photography.

With darkness closing in, this was the view of the sky from my window seat.

... into the weekend 💙 have a wonderful one!

This massive mountain peak above the clouds was photographed from Going-To-The-Sun Road in Glacier National Park (Montana).

Flight home. Japan-bound, crossing Asia, almost back to the land of the rising sun. That Stockholm, Osaka route looked epic on the monitor… so close to touching down.

After a short night on the top of the of mount Emei (Emeishan) one of the four Buddhist sacred mountains of China we went up to watch the sunrise. The mist that had settled in during the night was slowly lifting making this temple to become visible. I loved how it seemed to float in the clouds. As most of the landscape was clouds I took this one with a long-lens.

This is something I've been wanting to try for awhile, and I finally made it up there on a foggy day. I was hoping for golden sunset light but ended up more with dusk lighting - so I'll just have to try it again.

The Colle Fauniera in Italy is one of the most beautiful passes I've ever seen.

- 1st, from one side or from the other, the climbs are different but as somptuous each. Each road would deserve a hike for itself, to take the time to feel the changes.

- 2nd, when you're up there, the austere wind-swept rocks and grass environment grabs you so deep in the soul, that you feel the highness and it's like touching the sky, actually, physically...

It then becomes a mental and psychic experience.

ENG: Me and the summit cross on Zugspitze!

That was simply the thrill of climbing the full 2962 meters to the last peak. This was one of my dreams, to be up there once in my life. The Zugspitze is divided into a German and an Austrian side, with the summit cross on the German side. And this day was simply predestined for it with a good 3 °C and lots of clouds.

This was taken on our recent skiing trip.

Very thankful that we went when we did and had a relaxing time.

The effect of Coronavirus will be far reaching for months I suspect, many are already fatigued by the media hype. It would be prudent to heed the warnings my dear friends, stay safe. Remote friendships like this might well be a better option for a while.

I’d forgotten until I’d looked at this photo that we were above the clouds at this point, that the valleys beneath must have been having quite a dreary day, yet we enjoyed the beauty and blessing of a cloudless sky above, able to see the path ahead clearly.

A few weeks ago, as the sun was setting, I tried to capture some of the amazing sunlit clouds we were flying over on our way from Curitiba to São Paulo.

Have a great new week and thanks for your most welcome visit.

Yesterday on the return flight: "... this is your captain speaking. I guess that you do not really care about altitude and outside temperature, but if you look out of the window on the right side ..."

*A poor attempt at sarcasm - the temperature inversion this morning was stunning and being above the clouds was a real treat.

I've been really impressed so far with the nikon 70-200 f/4 - it's fast and pretty sharp. I want to use it for flock flight shots and close-up flight shots e.g. when puffins just get too close on the Farnes etc. however it works really well for landscapes too.

Ai-Petri (Ukrainian: Ай-Петрі, Russian: Ай-Петри, Crimean Tatar: Ay Petri); (translated from Greek. Saint Peter) is a peak in the Crimean Mountains. For administrative purposes it is in the Yalta municipality of Crimea. The name has Greek origin, and is translated as St. Peter (Greek: Άγιος Πέτρος).

Above the Clouds - Zugspitze, Bavaria

What to do when the weather is just grey in grey - cloudy and trist?

You can stay at home - leave your camera in your backpack...or you move to a place above the clouds - what I did :-)

And to make sure that this works I choose the highest point of Germany - the Zugspitze with almost 3000 meters...

The weather and view was just wonderful and I took "a few" photos...and want to share some this with you. This was at sunset a few minutes before the last cabin left - I had to hurry but as you can see the view from above down to the clouds was much nicer than the other way round :-)

there you are on the plane, you have a nice window seat and you want to enjoy the view.... and then this! The thought occurs to you: "does the wing have to be on my side of all places?"
