Snow Geese, Middle Creek Wildlife Management Area, Kleinfeltersville, Pennsylvania. The estimated head count for Snow Geese on this day was about 70,000+. This is not a black & white photo. It was just another gray day in PA. www.pgc.pa.gov/InformationResources/AboutUs/ContactInform...

"I prefer to walk on the edge of the table. You can not see anything in the middle. And little happens. But walking on the edge is much more exciting. You can see twice as much and the most interesting things happen, which you will never experience elsewhere"

View from Mt Difficulty Vineyard in Bannockburn where we are having lunch. April 27, 2016 Central Otago in the South Island of New Zealand.
The Cellar Door at Mt Difficulty Wines is known as much for its dramatic views of rugged rock and thyme landscapes as it is for its stylish wine and food.
The unique microclimate of the Bannockburn area is partially created by the presence of Mount Difficulty which overlooks the southern Cromwell basin, and is the namesake of Mt Difficulty Wines. Mount Difficulty is integral in providing low rainfall and humidity for the region. Bannockburn enjoys hot summers, a large diurnal temperature variation and long cool autumns; conditions which bring the best out of the Pinot Noir grapes. These conditions, along with soils which are ideal for viticulture, provide an excellent basis not only for Pinot Noir, but also for Pinot Gris, Riesling, and Chardonnay. The soils are a mix of clay and gravels, but all feature a high pH level; grapes produce their best wines on sweet soils.

The story of this Art Deco treasure in Invermay is a fascinating one. It was built in 1937 and ran as a cinema until 1969. As a single screen cinema it wasn't able to compete with the emerging multiplexes and the huge impact of television.
For many years it ran as a charity store for the St Vincent de Paul Society. However, around 2015 is was converted back to a picture theatre and it continues to run as an Independent cinema showing many of the latest art house movies. It's future was further secured when it was successfully sold to new owners in 2022.

All the make up brushes (and calligraphy brushes) you could think of, and some you would never come up with... in top-quality. As a cosmetic aficionado, I think this is heaven. 😊

Reverends John and Janie Wallace are from a long family line of farming dating back to colonial times in Pennsylvania and Ontario. After nearly twelve years of organic farming in Bradford County, Pennsylvania, they have moved their farming operation to escape the environmental and health hazards of the unregulated drilling and fracking operations of the Marcellus Shale Gas industry ravaging northern Pennsylvania.
They have established their new home and family farm in the beautiful environmentally protected area of Ridgeway, Ontario, Canada, on the fertile Niagara peninsula. John and Janie are committed to sustainable farming methods and strive to operate their farm in an environmentally sound manner.
Our goal is to be good stewards of the Lord's earth, to naturally produce healthy animals and crops, and to promote a healthy lifestyle. A portion of our bounty is donated to the needy.

The beauty of a Barn Quilt is undeniable! Barn quilt blocks are gaining in popularity throughout Ontario they are used not only on barns, but garages, fences, the side of houses, and even businesses.
Ideal for gifts and making an artistic statement by enhancing the aesthetics of your property.
The pattern for a particular barn quilt may be chosen for myriad reasons. Often the barn quilt is a replica of a painted quilt that resides on the property or honors a loved one.
A pattern may be selected because of its name; Corn and Beans is popular among farmers. Sometimes, the barn quilt is simply one whose pattern is appealing to either its creators or its owners.
We will custom hand paint your barn block to coordinate with your colours, in the block design of your choice, or we can choose for you. The blocks are painted onto premium exterior grade plywood and the sizes are 2 feet square, 4 feet square or 8 feet square.
We use premium environment friendly exterior paint for years of durability against UV rays, fading and wear.

The monk council, together with members of the Laotian community, purchased the property in Caledon, Ontario in November 1997. From there, there were aspirations of creating a place of worship where the entire Laotian community could come together. The temple received its building permit in October 2003, and had their official opening ceremony on July 1st 2006.
The property in Caledon is a 73-acre lot that consists of the Sala that was completed on February 21st 2006 by the work of the volunteers that spent their weekends building this vision. Before the 3 years of construction, it took over 27 years of organizing and planning. This is the first Laotian Buddhist temple built in North America by traditional Laotian standards.
This building is more than just a place of worship for the community. It is home to the monks that have been sponsored directly from Laos. The duty of the monks preside over the religious ceremonies at the temple and service the Laotian-Canadian community across the Greater Toronto Area.
The board members and volunteers have invested many years of time and dedication. They created this with visions of it being a public temple where people can perform meritorious acts, a temple that offers meditation services, and a way to keep the Laotian culture alive in Canada.
The name of the temple can be broken down as, "Wat" meaning temple in Laotian, "Lao" indicating the origin of the people and "Veluwanaram" being the name of the temple.
The background is a view of the Ohaaki Power Station. It shows the 105 m high natural draft cooling tower, the only one of its kind in New Zealand.
The Ohaaki geothermal power station was commissioned in 1989. Production wells at Ohaaki are, on average, 1.2 km deep and reach water at temperatures up to 280°C.

Last night I visited the visually stunning UNBOXED event at Paisley Abbey. The project is called ‘About Us’ and uses awe-inspiring live projection-mapped animation to tell the story of our history, from the Big Bang to the present day. It has been created by one of the production companies behind the London 2012 Olympic Games opening ceremony.

Just joined a new group where members take it in turns to suggest a monthly theme.
This month, the theme is sinful. People who know me might be surprised at the lack of sexuality in the above image but if I might tell a long story in a rather cut down fashion:
1988. My GCSE English Language coursework. Something original. Something compelling. Ideas... Worlds turned upside down. The straight Wizard Of Oz fan? The Olympic diver afraid of water? No. The fire station peopled by pyromaniacs. It began out of necessity. Threatened with closure, the firefighters start fires themselves. Saved, they must continue. But enjoy the raising more than the putting out. Their lust for flames is a sin that no hose, no engine nor water cannon can quench.
Luckily, I got an A. I was rather chuffed.

Located adjacent to Fosters Avenue and set in its own garden demesne, Merville House was built in mid-1700 for the Right Hon. Anthony Foster, Chief Baron of the Irish Exchequer. It is recorded that the gardens themselves extended to four acres with running streams. This country villa was later passed to his son, Sir John Foster, in 1778, and became one of many townhouses owned by the last Speaker of the Irish House of Commons.
In more recent history, Merville House was established as a riding school in 1938, which continued in operation until the 1950’s when the estate was acquired by UCD.
Merville House became home to the university’s Biochemistry and Pharmacology academic teaching and research until 2003 when the laboratory based activity was relocated to the state-of-the-art Conway Institute, in the heart of the UCD Science District.

Today at lunch, one of our colleagues (Kaz) took MCV, SPC and me out to lunch at Café Gratitude in Berkeley (the original one is in San Francisco). Kaz has always raved about how excellent this place was but since the three of us are not "vegans" we weren't really sure what we would order or if we would even like the food. Well, to be quite honest, I truly enjoyed myself and I never knew vegan food can taste incredibly flavorful and the presentation was beautiful ... not to mention "healthy". They serve fresh food made with organic ingredients. I can't say I won't give up on meat but I will eat at Café Gratitude here and there . . . I know the hubs will like this place. It was definitely a unique dining experience . . .
Gold paint, that is. Adding some finishing touches (gold paint) to the hand carved, hand cut, hand pressed wooden prints that we have been preparing over the past few days. To find out what they are for, and to see more progress photos of how it was done, please click here.
This is also our new blog. It has a feed, what ever that means, so you can stay in touch on the go.

Spent December 10th in Virginia and DC. 15 years ago, today, Zack's father, a sergeant major died and was buried @ Arlington National Cemetery,so we went to visit. It was a busy day and not only did we witness about 6 or 7 funerals at different times, but one actually came to us as we visited with his father...3 rows and 20 spots or so down. Pretty impressive and so sad.
