Working in the middle of this Paper Daisy is a Leafcutter Bee. It's gathering pollen for its solitary nest. Leafcutter doesn't carry that pollen on its legs in the way of for example Honeybees; instead it's abdomen has small reddish hairs that serve as a kind of basket for pollen. You can see it clearly in the photo.
Incidentally, technically speaking only the Yellow Centre of Paper Daisy is the gathering of flower with stamens and pistils. The surrounding papery 'petals' are in fact bracts formed from the topmost foliage of the flower.

This species is distributed from Hungary to as far east as Mongolia and China. The most important distinguishing character is the yellowish brown mystax ("mustache", darker in males), which is white in the case of S. elegantulus, black and "bushy" on S. albofasciatus (the latter has entirely black legs). Stichopogon scaliger, males of which may have yellow-brown mystax, has a different abdominal pattern and lacks the relatively long, dark acrostichal setae on the mesonotum of S. barbistrellus.
(This specimen is relatively freshly emerged, slightly tenereal, therefore the reddish color of the tibiae is not very obvious.)
There are nights that are longer than other nights and the reasons for this are usually not of a happy nature. May are some kind of Monster there hidden in shadows ;)

A cold and wet morning here in Amsterdam. The Hortus was quiet; not even the Bumblebees were out. Rain showers; wind. And then a slow clearing with the Sun attempting to break through the clouds.
Among the first Bees to wake from their lethargy was this Heriades truncorum, Large-headed Resin Bee. On a nice, sunny and dry day you may have noticed these little creatures shaking their abdomens in a wild as it were drunken - pun not intended - frenzy.
Nothing like that this morning. That 'shiver' communicates to the stamens of the tiny flower heads to 'loosen' their pollen, which is then collected on Bee's abdominal hairs. You can see those hairs clearly in the main photo. In the inset (a photo Olymp shot a couple of days ago) you'll see the packed pollen Bee's collected. Meanwhile it's sating on flower's nectar. But this morning it was too chilly and damp for pollen to let loose, and thus no Bee Shiver; but nectarian sustenance continued to be called for.
Ten days ago I had abdominal surgery and I've not felt up to making photographs, but yesterday I decided to just make a couple exposures "to exercise my creative brain" if nothing more.
I exposed two 5x7 sheets of Fomapan 100 @ 50 ASA and developed one in Thornton's 2-Bath developer, and another in PMK. This image is from the Thornton negative. I’ve used Fomapan sheet film for a couple years now and I find it to be a very capable product, and aside from its reciprocity characteristics, it’s a very attractive option at a remarkably good price. I buy FP4+ occasionally and have a cache of it in the fridge, but at nearly $10 a slice for 8x10 sheets of it, it’s hard to justify this price and I expect I will limit how much of it I buy in the future.
The differences between the two developers are very subtle and aside from the Pyro stain on the PMK neg, the two negatives scan almost identically. (They'd print differently in the darkroom, though) Anyway, this was a happy exercise and it felt good to make some new work.

The theraband teaches how much the limbs have to be active for the Pilates roll down.
1. Sit with legs extended. Place theraband around the back and hold the theraband with the hands. Bend knees if hamstrings are tight.
2. Exhale, hollow abdominals and sequence the spine on to the floor.
3. Inhale and lengthen the head away from the feet.
4. Exhale, hollow and roll back up.
Repeat two more sets.
We just wanted to prepare for winter time but she passed out photos on my face -.-

Este momento dura entre 2 y 6 segundos y que hay que estar atento si se quiere obtener la imagen. Así agarrado terminará de sacar el abdomen y tendrá que conseguir el tamaño definitivo de abdomen y alas a base de insuflar aire por la boca.

My home grown California Mantid. After the eggs hatched way back in May, I kept four of these insects. This is the one that survived. (They were all in separate containers.) This male (8 abdominal segments) has grown to a length of about three inches. He's progressed from eating aphids to fruit flies to "house flies". Roger, who can move very stealthily (Is that really a word?) is an ace at catching flies for him.

Hiski's abdominal hernia was operated last Friday and he is now wearing a collar. He is so wonderful dog who has gone through a broken leg and now two operations. He is recuperating very well at the moment. In the background you can see our second dachshund Hannes and Grimm from Mother Goose & Grimm comics (Grimm is actually "Hiski" in a translated version).
