These people were hogging the dragon head rock I was aiming to capture, instead of waiting for them to leave, I might as well snap a photo of them.

For my US buddies, it is already Friday morning in Australia! We are always hours ahead.
He's known as the tortured genius who cut off his own ear, but two German historians now claim that painter Vincent van Gogh lost his ear in a fight with his friend, the French artist Paul Gauguin.
The official version about van Gogh's legendary act of self-harm usually goes that the disturbed Dutch painter severed his left ear lobe with a razor blade in a fit of lunacy after he had a row with Gauguin one evening shortly before Christmas 1888.
Bleeding heavily, van Gogh then wrapped it in cloth, walked to a nearby bordello and presented the severed ear to a prostitute, who fainted when he handed it to her.
He then went home to sleep in a blood-drenched bed, where he almost bled to death, before police, alerted by the prostitute, found him the next morning.
He was unconscious and immediately taken to the local hospital, where he asked to see his friend Gauguin when he woke up, but Gauguin refused to see him.
A new book, published in Germany by Hamburg-based historians Hans Kaufmann and Rita Wildegans, argues that Vincent van Gogh may have made up the whole story to protect his friend Gauguin, a keen fencer, who actually lopped it off with a sword during a heated argument.
The historians say that the real version of events has never surfaced because the two men both kept a "pact of silence" - Gauguin to avoid prosecution and van Gogh in an effort trying to keep his friend with whom he was hopelessly infatuated.

Nearly done boarding up the windows for Hurricane Irma's arrival tomorrow. The news is not good here, as the eye of the storm is supposed to go directly through my town here in Florida. We are exhausted, nervous, and stressed to the max. Hoping that we still have a home next week. You have probably seen the damage that Irma has created in the Islands out in the Atlantic, so you can understand why we are worried. More than 6 million people have evacuated, the most in United States history. Because of the changing paths I decided to stay and ride it out, and now its too late to leave because the roads are packed and no gas for the car left all throughout Florida. Sorry I had to rant tonight. Take care
UPDATE: So we finally got power and internet back. Still in the process of cleaning things up and getting things back in order. Growing up in Florida I have gone through my share of hurricanes, but this storm felt different. Irma was the most powerful storm ever recorded in the Atlantic. It had 185mph sustained winds and gusts of over 200mph when it hit the islands. 90% of the homes in the Florida Keys are damaged, and 25% of those are completely gone. My area dodged a major bullet. The eye of the storm was forecasted to go right through my area, but it moved east about 25 miles. The winds were bad, but nothing like it could have been. So now the cleanup continues. The link should show photos of the damage posted at ABC news.

It was a totally perfect morning to watch the moonset with such clear sky. No clouds, no fog, no haze. I have been waited about 4 years for this shot. Finally I have this very lucky snapshot. It is not easy to see such sky during the summer time. The good thing was there a big ship under the bridge tower. :) It is something that you can't ask for it. Have wait and see every month. I am very happy with what I seen this morning. Thanks Wilson came by to shoot with me!
It is a single shot by a big lens and with crop sensor body. I do very like this Sony Alpha A6000 body. Good for what you need.
Happy Father's day!

Hey if you believe public photography should be your right and not a permit only privilege, nyc is looking into taking away that right from everyone in the city. This feels like the beginning of something that makes me sick. If you disagree with this action, go read and sign the petition
I took the same shot two years ago. Has a noticeable difference taken place on the site? No.
But behind the scenes... Passions rise as fellow Americans clash on plans for a mosque to be built on the very ground where 3,000 perished 9 years ago.
I cannot at all comprehend the emotions felt by either party so will not share my opinion on the matter. But I feel there's at least some unity between them as both sides are waving American flags.

Lyrics from Bethel Music; www.youtube.com/watch?v=68qwoIjMD1c
You’re like starlight in the dark,
Endless miles can’t conceal you.
And every glimmer is a spark,
Catching fire as you break through.
Oh, you’re not far away - you coming close.
Oh, even as I wait, you’re coming close.
You’re like summer in the night,
The sun goes down but still I feel you;
And every shadow’s turning bright,
Every broken heart is made new.
There’s no heart unseen
There’s no space between you and I.
You are closer than
The very oxygen I’m breathing in
You are God with us,
You are here with us, Immanuel!
You are infinite, your glory has no end, Jesus!

Drove for over two hours, shot over 140 frames... this was the only Perseid I caught with the camera, and it was the second exposure. Gah!!
Sure, I saw a good handful of them throughout the night (from about 11PM to 3 AM), but the suckers were always streaking where my lens wasn't.

Cameras are not weapons. PHOTOGRAPHY IS NOT A CRIME.
If you are in the NYC area August 2nd 2007 in the afternoon, consider attending the SHOOT OUT FOR FREEDOM
Very few things make me really and truly worked up, in the angry fashion. Just having gone to NYC this very week, news of legislature in the works to ban all photography and filming in public places without a permit (and $1 million in liability insurance) being obtained sickens me.
While claiming that the average tourist or amateur photographer would not be affected, they have made the language vague enough that even if you are holding a camera, an officer could likely seize your equipment if they were so inclined. Not to mention how the enforcers might profile suspects. One can only imagine how this will affect artists, journalists, education and tourism.
I encourage you to read over the NY Times article and if you find this as horrifying, not to mention unconstitutional, I encourage you to go sign this petition and write to your representatives, to the City Council, and Mayor Bloomberg. As someone who cannot picture my life without taking pictures any more, this breaks my heart thinking where it might lead next.... sickening, destructive paranoia that could spread to your town next.
Please repost this info any and everywhere you see fit. It has gotten next to no media coverage anywhere. And we cannot fight what is kept hidden from us.

Yes, Trillion! Certainly, Alan Greenspan knew what "Bucket Shops" were. Greenspan worshiped Ayn Rand, the ultra-Libertarian, who believed in no government oversite of the economy.
In the final days of the Clinton administration (Clinton is #2 culprit), corrupt legislators pushed through the Commodity Futures Modernization Act of 2000, which enabled Bucket Shops to open up on Wall Street.
A specific clause in The Act over-rides state laws against Bucket Shops. The Moneychangers on Wall Street fooled school districts, banks and retirement & mutual funds to buy these deriviatives. Lyndon Larouche warned about these criminally AAA-rated paper pigs almost as soon as the market took off in 2000.
IMO: the only solution is for Obama to recall and reissue currency. This will force the crooks who profit from drug deals and these Derivatives to prove how they obtained their $$$.
The "Commodity Futures Modernization Act of 2000" (H.R. 5660) was introduced in the House on December 14, 2000 by Rep. Thomas W. Ewing (R-IL) and cosponsored by Rep. Thomas J. Bliley, Jr. (R-VA) Rep. Larry Combest (R-TX) Rep. John J. LaFalce (D-NY) Rep. Jim Leach (R-IA) and never debated in the House.
The companion bill (S.3283) was introduced in the Senate on December 15, 2000 (The last day before Christmas holiday) by Sen. Richard Lugar (R-IN) and cosponsored by Sen. Peter Fitzgerald (R-IL) Sen. Phil Gramm (R-TX) Sen. Chuck Hagel (R-NE) Sen. Thomas Harkin (D-IA) Sen. Tim Johnson (D-SD) and never debated in the Senate.

UPDATE: In June 2013, film producer Charles Ferguson interviewed Bill Clinton who said he and Larry Summers couldn't change Alan Greenspan's mind and Congress then passed the Act with a veto-proof supermajority. Ferguson revealed that this was inaccurate and, he said, a lie, while commenting that he thought Clinton was "a really good actor". In fact, Ferguson wrote, the Clinton Administration and Larry Summers lobbied for the Act and joined Robert Rubin in both privately and publicly attacking advocates of regulation. On Saturday 25 February 2023, several thousand Peace Now demonstrators marched through central London to demand negotiations to bring about a peaceful resolution to the Ukraine war.
PEACE TALKS NOW.
Almost all the protesters agreed that their main demand was for a greater effort to end the horrific conflict in Ukraine, in which possibly as many as 200,000 may have already died and with the risk of escalation threatening the end of all human life on earth.
WASHINGTON AND LONDON BLOCKED TALKS IN 2022
The evidence suggests that the United States and United Kingdom blocked Ukraine from carrying through with its proposed basis for a peace deal with Russia during negotiations in March-April 2022, with the Ukrainian newspaper Ukrayinska Pravda, citing sources close to Zelensky, claiming that Boris Johnson, on his visit to Kiev on 9 April, personally lobbied the Ukrainian president to abandon peace talks and continue the conflict.
peacenews.info/node/10287/liz-truss-helped-derail-chances...
The former Israeli prime minister, Naftali Bennett, also claimed that Washington blocked his attempts to negotiate a peace deal between Kiev and Moscow.
thegrayzone.com/2023/02/06/israeli-bennett-us-russia-ukra...
A VARIETY OF VIEWS ON SENDING ARMS
Protesters had a greater variety of views on whether the West should send any arms to Ukraine at all, with many opposing any supply of arms that they believe will only prolong the conflict and suffering and risk further escalation, while others argued that sending some arms was morally justifiable to help Ukraine, but that the supply should be carefully calibrated so as not to make a wider and even more catastrophic world war more likely.
JEREMY CORBYN'S SPEECH
The former British Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn, appearing unexpectedly in the middle of the demonstration as people were gathering for the march, gave an unscheduled speech, declaring that
'if all the protagonists in this conflict can come together to discuss the supply of grain to the world, and come to an agreement by which ships carrying the grain from Ukraine and Russia can go to feed other people in other parts of the world; if the US is capable of contacting Russia to say that president Biden is visiting Kiev, then it is obviously possible they could come together for serious talks and serious negotiations to stop the fighting, stop the killing, stop the conflict, and bring about peace and justice."
WHY THE WEST NEEDS TO SUPPORT AND NOT BLOCK PEACE NEGOTIATIONS
1. Regardless of one's opinions on the rights and wrongs of this conflict, most people will agree on their shock at it's human cost. A war which has already claimed at least 100,000 lives, possibly over 200,000, including more than 8,000 civilians.
abcnews.go.com/International/russia-ukraine-war-tens-thou...
Its continuation also threatens global food supplies and energy prices, plunging thousands into food and fuel poverty across Europe and leading to widespread food shortages and hunger across Africa and parts of Asia.
2. Every day the war continues, and as NATO supplies of ever more powerful weaponry continue to increase, the risk of the war escalating into a terminal nuclear conflict continues to grow.
Putin and much of the Russian military establishment will do almost anything to prevent a Ukrainian victory, especially one that might see Crimea, of huge strategic importance and with a clear majority Russian population, be returned to Ukraine. Many strategic analysts and Russia specialists believe that Moscow would be willing to consider using at least tactical nuclear weapons, and that this could quickly escalate into global conflict.
The ongoing conflict is also jeopardising all the remaining arms control agreements which prevent another nuclear arms race, so that even if Ukraine is victorious, we risk entering a new cold war which is likely to end, soon rather than later, in a nuclear conflict that will terminate all organised human life on earth.
3. The Ukraine War has led to a huge increase in the consumption of fossil fuels, and the reversal of key policies in the fight against climate change. It also hinders crucial cooperation between Russia and the West on this urgent issue, on which the future of all human life on earth so heavily depends, particularly with regards measures to curb emissions, as well as cooperation between Russian and Western scientists. Russia occupies a large part of the arctic, where research findings are vital for our understanding of how rapidly climate change is occurring.
4. We have to acknowledge that some of the West's recently declared war aims are highly questionable such as returning Crimea to Ukraine. Not only are the Russians unlikely to ever consider entering peace negotiations over its return, but over 60% of the population is Russian according to the last 2001 Ukrainian census and only 24% ( about 1 in 4) are Ukrainian.
So it will be difficult to incorporate the territory back into Ukraine without at least some sort of referendum on Crimea's status. It also has to be acknowledged that the millions of Russians who live within Ukraine have for years faced harsh discrimination with severe restrictions on the importation of books in the Russian language since 2017 (Russian books had previously accounted for 60% of all titles), restrictions on the use of Russian language in schools and Russophobic attacks in the streets.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Racism_in_Ukraine
The Russians in the Donbass area have also suffered from years of shelling during a prolonged war Ukrainian forces waged against them, with a total death toll up to December 2021 (including both Ukrainian and insurgent forces) of over 14,000, including over 3,000 civilians killed. Yes, there was an inflow of Russian arms which also stoked the conflict, but many Russians viewed this as legitimate support for a population which was under attack from the Ukrainian army.
ukraine.un.org/sites/default/files/2022-02/Conflict-relat...
5. Finally, whatever one's views on the Ukrainian conflict, the evidence suggests that Western strategy is failing. Russian forces continue to gain ground in Ukraine on a daily basis, despite an enormous inflow of NATO arms. Russian industry is able to be fully mobilised on a war footing in a way that the West, with its just in time corporate controlled arms industry, can't compete with.
NATO has already acknowledged that by the summer of this year, Ukraine is likely to run out of artillery shells. What is brutally termed the "burn rate" of NATO supplied military equipment (and indeed of Ukrainian young men) is far higher than its replenishment rate. At the same time, despite all the sanctions the Russian economy is predicted to grow faster this year than either Germany or the United Kingdom.
www.grid.news/story/global/2023/02/01/russias-economy-is-...
The ruble has actually gained slightly in strength against the US dollar, relative to its value a year ago in February 2022,
www.xe.com/currencycharts/?from=RUB&to=USD
and Russian reserves remain impressively high. Much of the world, including China, India, South Africa and Brazil, remain more than willing to retain good relations with Russia and import its oil and other key commodities.
Western strategy is failing to weaken Russia but the war strengthens the position of the nationalists within Russia, and gives the Russian government a pretext to clampdown on dissent. It also pushes Russia ever closer to China, while accelerating Europe's relative economic decline. So whatever one's moral view on the conflict, the lack of any coherent strategy to end this conflict and the West's refusal even to consider peace negotiations appears to be a catastrophic mistake.
Here's a close up that curvy electronic sign outside ABC News headquarters. I was kinda fascinated with this for some reason..
Iguanas are cold blooded so when we have a cold blast here in South Florida, they are in danger, literally falling out of trees lifeless. If they aren't injured, when they warm up they revive and walk away. abcnews.go.com/US/iguanas-falling-trees-florida-due-cold-...
Iguanas are capable of severely injuring people, other animals and themselves when their body language signals are not recognized. Most iguanas clearly sign that trouble is ahead. They nod their head and wave their dewlap side to side. The dewlap is a fold of loose skin hanging from the neck or throat of an animal, such as a cow.
Iguanas use their dewlap to communicate. First, an extended dewlap can simply be a greeting, away to say hello to another creature during mating but most generally as a territorial sign. Second, it can be a form of protection. A threatened iguana may extend its dewlap to intimidate a predator into thinking it is much larger than it is. Third, an extended dewlap may be a sign that the iguana is trying to adjust its temperature. An extended dewlap on an iguana basking in the sun is quite normal. It may be catching more sun to warm up or a breeze to cool off. So it's important to see "the big picture" when reading Iguana body language.
Update, this morning I went out to check on my dead Iguana and he was gone! I hope he was up in the tree watching me!
