East St. Louis, Illinois at the tum of the century was one of the fastest growing cities in America. It is located on the east bank of the Mississippi River across from St. Louis, Missouri. The Spivey Building is a twelve-story commercial building in the heart of the central business district that was erected in 1927 and provided the bustling downtown area with its first & only "skyscraper" and the most prominent building on the East St. Louis skyline. For the reasons explained above, the Spivey Building was determined, by the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP), to meet Criterion C for designation on the register as a locally significant example of a skyscraper in the Commercial Style with Sullivanesque details and was added to the register on January 17, 2002. While East St. Louis was nominated as "The All American City" in 1960 by Look Magazine, much of that history has been lost forever. The Spivey Building, however, remains mostly intact and provides an example of the past even though it is now abandoned like much of the rest of the downtown commercial area.

All of the information above was found on the original documents submitted to the NRHP for listing consideration and can be viewed here: catalog.archives.gov/id/28894126

The "Revel" casino (say it aloud now: "Revel") in Atlantic City cost $2.4 billion to build. It opened in 2012 and operated for two years and five months.

Almost every conscious person knew that it was foolish to be spending $2.4 billion to build a casino in Atlantic City in the early 2010s. Even gamblers knew this, foolish as they are.

Apparently this room on the ground level of the rear office tower was setup during an earlier refurbishment project, only to be abandoned as well. I think the calendar on the wall is from 2001.
