Governor Moore and Lt Governor Miller Hold the AAPI Heritage Month Happy Hour by Patrick Siebert at 110 State Circle, Annapolis, MD 21401
The White House Initiative on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders convened dozens of young leaders from across the nation on May 20, 2016 at the White House. These young leaders discussed many of the key issues affecting the AAPI youth community including civic engagement, accessing opportunities to public service careers, immigration, mental health and bullying. They were able to share best practices, brainstorm solutions to obstacles they experienced while working in their communities and built connections to continue their great efforts within their communities.
A historic AAPI Presidential Election Forum was held on August 12, 2016, organized by APIAVote and the Asian American Journalists Association at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. An estimated 2,500 attended the event featuring President Bill Clinton for Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, Green Party nominee Jill Stein, Libertarian Party nominee Gov. Comptroller Lierman held the first annual AAPI Heritage Month Awards. The awards included categories that include Small Business, Emerging Business, Business Leader, and Public Service. Notable nominees include Maryland Secretary of State Susan Lee, various State commissioners, non-profit leaders, business owners, and advocates.
