It was such a beautiful sunny morning today that I could not resist taking a few more photographs of what must be the most photogenic building in Birmingham, if not England -- The Selfridges Department store !
The fog was so amazing yesterday morning that I decided to do a series-I have one more for tomorrow. It's also helpful to have a few extra shots since this is a busy week at work as I prepare to be away from work for most of next week. Las Vegas here we come...yay!

"A New Perspective"
Artist: Melissa Kempf
Location: YWCA St. Thomas-Elgin, 16 Mary Street W, St. Thomas, ON
Inspired by one of my favourite Austrian artists/architects Friedensreich Hundertwasser, this work challenges the viewers imagination and concept of reality through the creative use of form and colour.
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to see the world in a new light? What comes after your darkest days? What it would be like if your future was filled with bright opportunities?
This work represents a different view, a new perspective on the world that YWCA St Thomas Elgin brings to each resident, client and learner; bright horizons and infinite possibilities.
Born and raised in Brantford, Melissa completed her studies of Art and Art History at McMaster University in Hamilton Ontario. Through four years of intense study in both fields Melissa came to better appreciate the artists of the past and those of the future. With an interest in nature and all things majestic and beautiful, she continues to create works of art that invoke emotion, passion and thought in the viewer. Many of her works embody imagery of fairies, nature and the human figure. She captures the warm yet delicate feeling of flight in works done in soapstone, paintings and printmaking. Her pieces play with the notion of weightlessness juxtaposed with the heavy material of soapstone from which they are created.
Working with clients to determine what their emotions, passions and thoughts are, Melissa can create custom works of art or offer pieces already created. From Hamilton, Melissa travelled to London where she studied Interior Design at Westervelt College. After this she had the opportunity to work for a builder where she was able to further her knowledge of the use of line, texture and colour while aiding home owners in decorating their new homes. Following 8 seasons as Theatre Manager at the Port Stanley Festival Theatre, she is currently working at YWCA St.Thomas-Elgin and living in St. Thomas.

“Wanderings”
Artist: Christina Guenther
Artwork: Fibreart
Location: YWCA St. Thomas-Elgin, 16 Mary Street W, St. Thomas, ON
When I create art, I wander, whether it is with a needle and thread, a paintbrush and paint or pencil and paper. For me it is the act of creating that is important. As a teacher and mom with young kids, it is necessary for me to dedicate time to the act of making.
"Wanderings" is a piece that is inspired by the prairie landscape that I grew up in and came back to after wandering.

When you look down... What do you see? color? black? diamonds? A promise? scars? marks? feet? tattoos? laces without meaning? writing? Art? My view is of a promise within a picture. A promise of peace, love, hope, joy, and comfort. Of a smile and a warm embrace. I see color, blasts of it... :) ask me what that means. You may regret it. You may be blasted yourself... it's up to you to take the risk...
If we all threw our problems in a pile and saw everyone else's, we'd grab ours back.

Theme for this week-a new perspective
I was taking a bunch of random pictures in my room tonight, just doing random things. But these pictures that I took like this were by far the most uncomfortable. I kept having to lean my hips up while I laid my head backwards against the bed. And my bed isn't that big sideways. So yeah. It was pretty uncomfortable. And to top it all off, it hurt my neck to look at the camera, so I was basically aiming blindly. Luckily my hands took some nice pictures anyways. ;] Thank you hands. Much appreciation.
