While walking around the garden at a japanese shrine, I came upon a couple posing for wedding photos.

At a traditional Japanese wedding, the bride and groom usually wear Japanese wedding kimonos. The bride wears a white wedding kimono called "uchikake" with a white headdress. The headdress is big and bulky and is said to hide the bride's "horns" as a symbol of submission

A bride's kimono and dresses are usually rented. Each is rented for more money than an average western woman would spend to purchase a wedding dress. All of the accessories are included in the rental of the kimono and dresses. The groom is also in rentals for the events. Some exceptions include his suit worn at the meal after the wedding ceremony.

6/26: Journey

Woke up, got out of bed........

Yesterday I realized I needed an image for the B&W theme!

I borrow much of my inspiration from my favorite music that is always playing in my head. Every day is a journey. Little journeys - coffee and the paper, a photo for another B&W project, a walk and a trip to the library............

Almost at work, this confusing sculpture sits in the middle of a roundabout just outside of Canary Wharf. I'd been meaning to photograph this for ages now and the DILO seemed like the perfect opportunity.

- Added to the Cream of the Crop as my most favourited photograph.

A Day in the Life II The Herders of Tanzania - Africa

As the last rays of the sun stretch across the vast, golden plains of Tanzania, a gentle haze rises from the ground, carrying with it the peace of a day drawing to a close. In a small village nestled within the hills, the rhythms of life are ancient and deeply connected to the land.

The first stirrings come as the day begins its descent, signaling the time to bring the livestock home. A great river of cattle, goats, and sheep begins to flow back towards the village corrals. A young herder, wrapped in a brilliant red shuka, guides the procession, his figure a striking splash of color against the earthy tones of the landscape. He walks alongside the animals, kicking up a fine dust that glistens like gold in the backlight of the setting sun. The animals, a mix of solid black, stark white, and dappled brown, move with a purpose, following the well-worn path that winds through the fields, heading for the safety of the village.

Elsewhere, other herders lead smaller groups to their enclosures. The village itself is a collection of simple, yet sturdy, huts made of natural materials, their thatched roofs blending seamlessly with the surrounding environment. From a distance, the village looks like a scattering of mushrooms on a great, sun-drenched canvas. A small, vibrant blue tin structure stands out—a modern touch in an otherwise timeless scene. The people here live in harmony with their environment, and their homes are built to be part of it.

Life revolves around the animals. They are not just a source of food and wealth; they are an extension of the family and a symbol of status. Goats, with their intelligent eyes, gather near the huts, watched over by a woman in traditional dress. The bond between the people and their livestock is palpable—a quiet understanding built on generations of shared existence.

As the sun dips lower, painting the sky with hues of orange and purple, the herders complete their trek, bringing the animals safely back for the night. The dust from their hooves creates a beautiful, ethereal cloud behind them, illuminated by the fading light. It is a daily return, a quiet ritual that has been performed for centuries. It's a testament to resilience, tradition, and a way of life that honors both the earth and the creatures that walk upon it.

The story of this Tanzanian cattle herder village is not one of grand events, but of the quiet poetry of everyday life. It is a story of tradition passed down, of a people deeply connected to their land, and of the enduring beauty of a life lived in rhythm with nature, especially as the day concludes under a breathtaking African sunset.

Odin: Thor Odinson, you have betrayed the express command of your king. Through your arrogance and stupidity, you have opened these peaceful realms and innocent lives to the horror and desolation of war! You are unworthy of these realms! You are unworthy of your title! You are unworthy...of the loved ones you have betrayed. I now take from you your power! In the name of my father and his father before, I, Odin Allfather, CAST YOU OUT!

Today, at least, the answer was at Manchester Piccadilly station!

A DAY IN THE LIFE

For ODC "A Day in Your Life" Last Friday... 1. and 2. Picked up my mom and grabbed a couple shots of a cooperative calf and a thistle with an inquiring insect in tow. 3. and 4. Arrived at my sister's house where we spent some porch time hanging out with our pups. 5., 6. And 7. Headed over to the Fayetteville square to shop the Farmer's Market. 8. Enjoyed a delicious dinner prepared with fresh veggies from the market. 9. Ended the day sitting out back in the light of the super moon!

We went for an all day drive on the country roads of Thunder Bay, a great day to get lost on the country roads.
