Rusty patriotism

русский мир 2016

This is a fresh one from June 2023. Today i posted the shot from the same spot from 2016. Back then i shot it just because i found it visually interesting. But the recent shot demonstrates the absence of McD logo (gone from Russia) and the brick wall painted in the colours of Russian flag. Quite a difference, huh?

Господин Хороший = Mr. Goodman (also known as The Citizen Poet) is a political satire project first started on the radio, then outgrown into the series of poetry reading performances on the most actual agenda.

The ad promotes an exchange of someone's t-shirt on the 'patriotic' one. The meaning of the prints and words is a play wth some idiomatic expressions on the theme of western sanctions. The general message is kinda "who the hell are you trying to scare with those sanctions - us?".

These t-shirts (or other 'patriotic' ones, with Putin for example) could be bought in many places around the city, yet some people had some doubts if the profit from their sell could ever return the money on these ADs around the city. So that could be a kind of veiled propaganda by the state. Anyways i never have seen someone wears such t-shirts as on the pic; for the two recent years i saw some folks with Putin on their shirts but the number of such people was less than the number of fingers on my hand. But that is in Moscow, maybe outside of it my compatriots all wear the such, i don't know :-)

Oh, and finally, someone wrote a note "Главный враг сидит в Кремле!" which means "The greatest enemy sits in Kremlin!".
