A striking cover design by the German/American graphic designer and artist Hoot von Zitzewitz on the front cover of the magazine Graphis from 1961. Graphis, published in Zurich by Amstutz & Herdeg, was considered to be one of the premier design and print journals of its time and the covers were commissioned from artists and designers from across the world.

 

Hoot von Zitzewitz (1927 - 1979) was a noted abstract painter and designer and worked for a wide range of major clients that included the US Air Force, Union Carbide, Shell Oil and Remington Rand. Latterly he also produced a small amout of cover art for sci-fi novels.

Eins der ganz wenigen, in Nord-Ostpreußen noch erhaltenen Gutshäuser steht in Weedern bei Darkehmen. Die Familie von Zitzewitz betrieb in Weedern ein privates Gestüt mit Trakehner Pferden. Heute ist in dem Haus, das von der Gartenseite aus fotografiert wurde, eine Schule untergebracht. Die Stallungen um den Wirtschafthof herum befinden sich in ziemlich desolatem Zustand.

In the 2008 Central Europe Rally, Carlos Sainz drove his Race Touareg 2 to victory. Finally, in the 2009 edition of Rally Dakar, Volkswagen achieved a one-two result. Giniel de Villiers and co driver Dirk von Zitzewitz won the race ahead of Mark Miller and Ralph Pitchford. With just two days to go, Carlos Sainz crashed out after dominating the rally for several days, thus preventing Volkswagen from making it a one-two-three result.

The hat was an important piece of the baby clothes in former times. Only though this hat it was possible to know if you had a girl or boy infront of you. Many pregnant women took this so seriously that they made two hats to be on the safe side. The difference was clear: The girls hat had a "toungue" and two side parts, whereas the boys hat was made of triangles (mostly 6 pieces)....

Zigarettenfabrik Greiling: Die mit ca. 4000 Angestellten zu den größten Dresdner Zigarettenherstellern gehörende Firma Richard Greiling erwarb nach dem Ersten Weltkrieg ein Areal zwischen Zwickauer, Nossener und Eisenstuckstraße und ließ sich hier 1926/27 ein modernes Büro- und Verwaltungsgebäude errichten. Der im Bauhausstil gestaltete Bau mit einem zwölfstöckigen Turm entstand nach Plänen von M. Krautschick und nahm neben Produktions- und Lagerräumen auch eine werkseigene Druckerei und die Kartonagenherstellung auf. 1934 wurde hier die erste Filterzigarette der Welt hergestellt.

 

Beim Luftangriff wurde das Gebäude zu 85 % zerstört, konnte jedoch bis 1947 notdürftig wiederhergestellt werden. Nach Verstaatlichung kam der Betrieb als Zweigwerk zum VEB Vereinigte Zigarettenfabriken und diente noch bis 1990 als Importlager.

La progresión de Giniel De Villiers en el Dakar solo podía llevarlo a la victoria. Desde un prometedor quinto puesto en el 2003, en lo que fue su primera participación al volante de un Nissan, el surafricano nunca ha dejado de mejorar. Cuarto en 2005; subcampeón el año siguiente por su primer Dakar, con Volkswagen; finalmente ha podido subir en lo más alto del podio en el primer Dakar sudamericano. “Para ganar un Dakar, hay que cometer el menor número de errores posibles, pero también hay que tener suerte”, resume el piloto sudafricano. “Y en el 2007, no tuvimos suerte”. Este año, luego de nueve días de carrera, de una gran habilidad, en los que llevó su Volkswagen Race Touareg en lo alto de la clasificación, un grave problema mecánico “absolutamente imprevisible” aniquiló todas sus posibilidades de victoria. Terminó la prueba en la posición número 11 de la clasificación general, un resultado muy por debajo de sus ambiciones y de sus capacidades. Más allá de todo, él y Dirk sabían muy bien que tenían “lo necesario” para ganar esta carrera. En Argentina y Chile, finalmente, han podido sacar lo mejor de su larga experiencia y tomar las riendas del rally tres días antes de la llegada, cuando Carlos Sainz abandonaba después de volcarse en un río. Para esta edición 32, el actual campeón tiene una motivación intacta: “Es perfecto tener una corona por la cual luchar. De hecho, tenemos menos presión que el año pasado. Pero sí las mismas ganas. En 2009, el equipo entero tenía la presión y estoy contento de haber sido el mejor”. A la hora de volver en Sudamérica, la competencia en el seno del team ha aún aumentado. Carlos Sainz sigue corriendo detrás de su sueño de ganar el Dakar, 20 años después de su último titulo mundial en WRC. Y la llegada de Nasser Al Attiyah, añade un pretendiente en el equipo de los hombres en azul. “De momento no hay ningún número uno. Carlos Sainz quiere ganar la carrera, al igual que Nasser. Pero la verdad, es que, yo tengo poca presión. Ellos, mucho más. La diferencia es que estoy muy relajado.” De Villers también se siente mejor preparado. A pesar de su victoria, el piloto ha sufrido mucho en 2009 de una hernia discal. “Hubo una intervención en abril y puedo decir que he recuperado del todo. Estoy listo para defender mi título.”
