The Oak Leaf Trail Zip Line connects Estabrook and Brown Deer Park along an abandoned rail line. The section of the trail marked in red on the map above, between Mill Road and Silver Spring Drive, is where WE Energies has applied herbicide and clear-cut brush along their right-of-way. Trail users and residents of Crestwood Subdivision have health and safety concerns about the work, and the debris left behind.
Today when I dropped by at the park, the zipline is finally opened. I was thinking to give it a try but it was so packed and all the tickets were sold out.
The price is $20 per person. My girlfriend and I roughly counted that the ride would take approximately 18-20 seconds to finish (depending how fast you are going).
The ride itself should be fun but I do not think it is as good as the one at Whistler as there is nothing much to see for QE Park Zipline.

Here you can see the zipline cable reinstalled and tensioned with the new turnbuckles. There's almost zero sag, and a good 12" or so of adjustment left in the turnbuckles to take up additional stretching. You can also see how much further down the cable the handle rides, even with the woefully insuficcient "heavy duty" block. Now if they new trolley will only get here, we'll be in business. More later.
So apparently you can buy a kit to setup your own zipline! Our friends, Steve and Eileen set one up in their backyard and invited us over on Memorial Day weekend. Was a great time!
Trout Lake Camp, MN. Probably not the most "professional" photo, but I love it anyway. You've seen the ladies before; they're some of my closest friends. The two guys are foreign exchange students. Max (in-between the two girls) is from Brazil and he makes sure that EVERYBODY knows that. He has hilarious, outgoing personality. Julius, on the end, is from Germany and has a small entourage of fangirls. Although he's quiet, he is actually very interesting if you talk to him one-on-one. Just another reason to love youth group. :-)
Recently my sister built a zipline, and one of my son's friends has one as well, so we decided to build one in our backyard.

Here's a view of the first iteration from upstairs. It works ok, but there's much room for improvement, as you'll see from the other photos. (I know it looks a little tame after Brian's installation, but remember--this is for a 4-year old!)

This past week I was in Boise Idaho visiting my bff Brittnie. We went on an awesome zipline adventure with www.zipidaho.com. This is me zipping along their "wild turkey" line. Please ignore my ridiculous noises/faces.
