(brag alert) SOOO I did a photo essay about desert plant life for Downtown Zen magazine (formerly known as the Zappos Employee Newsletter) and they put that business on the August cover. Needless to say, I'm pretty geeked out about it. You can check out the whole thing here: dtzen.com/digital-issues/#downtown_zen_-_august_2016

My old dog Zappo had a great life up there and was free to run around everywhere!

I wanted these two weeks ago, but decided against them. As soon as I saw them here, I changed my mind. I love these shoes.
First of all, THANK YOU to all my tweeps for your advice on sandals. Some of these I ordered before chatting with all of you, but I really I got some good input on other possibilities. Still trying to make some decisions, but I've narrowed it down to these (Yes! Really! This is narrowed! So far I am sending back 3 pairs of Fryes, a pair of Borns, and a pair of Birkenstocks not pictured here).
Next month we're going to Disney for 4 days and to Universal Island for 1 and I want my feets to be comfortable (and my back and my knees and my hips - o hai, I am old). But I want sandals that I can wear with my breezy little cotton skirts (weird confession: unless I'm out for a run, I almost never wear shorts). The number one sandal recommended to me was the Keen Whisper. I did end up getting each of my kids a pair (and oy! the $$$!), but those are a little too sporty for wearing with the clothes I plan to be wearing. I think. Anyway. Here's what we've got.
1 - Keen Balboa - I really love this one!! So comfy! And really cute! But I think it still might be a little too sporty for my skirts.
2 - Chaco's ZX/2 Unaweep - I think this is the number one contender right now, even though it's a little clunkier than what I had in mind. I have high arches, and the arch support on these is pretty darn great.
3 - Papillio Gizeh - Birk soles but Papillio uppers. I love the way these feel but the color is lighter than what I had in mind (picky much?) and they look wide on my narrow feet. I'm very torn about these.
4 - Merrell Freesia - these are very cute and Merrell's fit me really well, but the last pair of Merrell's I bought didn't have enough arch support and neither do these
5 - Clark Privo's - omg these are so cute and I love them so much but I think they are more a shoe for work than for walking Disney. If I could keep all the sandals, I would definitely be keeping these. (they are very comfy - just not for walking a several miles a day)
6 - Birkenstock Gizeh - yeah, I had already ordered these when I ordered the Papillio's. I didn't think I liked this color (Copper Coin - an orange metallic) but I think I like it better than those pink Papillio's. Weirdly, though, the footbed on these feels harder than the one on the Papillio's. Also, these are on sale now, so if I want these I'll reorder them at the cheaper price.
7 - Sanuk Yoga Mat Flip-Flops. OMG Y'ALL EVERYONE NEEDS A PAIR OF THESE. I've been wearing these for the last four weeks and I love them. The soles are made from yoga mats and they are so cushy. I love them!! But for the beach, not for Disney.
8 - Keen La Paz Thongs. These are really cute! They look great with my skirts. But I don't think they have enough arch support and the straps also slide around a bit.
Soooo. Still up in the air, but I *think* the Chaco's are my number one choice. I had thought I might get a less expensive pair to rotate in with them (like the Birks/Papillio's) but I'm not sure. What I'd really like to do is keep the Chaco's and the Keen Balboa's, but together that's a lot of coin!
