Technically it wasn't mine, but belonged to the Uranový Průzkum. A state owned (what else?) business my dad worked at.

Inspired by the art of Paul Klee, and the ZX Spectrum classic Jet Set Willy.

Sir Clive Sinclair's office in the Sinclair building in Cambridge

Me hace muchísima ilusión la idea de tener este cuadro colgado en mi zona de trabajo.

A bit worse for wear.

Tuxa se lo está currando mucho. Para ella lo que está bordando no tiene ningún significado especial, pero está horas y horas con esto.

A couple of old classics at the Game On exhibition in the Science Museum recently, from left to right, I unfortunately cannot make out the first one, even though I did play it, 2nd is 3D Deathchase on the ZX Spectrum, 3rd is Mario Bros on the Nintendo Famicom and unfortunately the Commodore 64 at the end was switched off!

PSSST! game on the Sinclair ZX Spectrum

Fantastic 8-bit baking by Cis.

The old Ultimate ZX Spectrum super hit - Knight Lore as ported to the MSX for Japan by Jaleco/Dexter Soft. Exactly the same game but very different (and rather cool) label art. Sadly, without its box.

At least you don't have to wait for it to load!

Classic early 80s precursor to Photoshop, especially for the ZX Spectrum 48K. The mouse is huge and much like a brick.

Rediscovered in Mum's attic during an exploration earlier today.

The old Ultimate ZX Spectrum isometric title - Nightshade as ported to the MSX for Japan by Jaleco/Dexter Soft. Exactly the same game but very different label art. Sadly, without its box.

Took some fiddling with the volume but I managed to load a game! Nice use of BRIGHT on the wheels and side windows of the car here to make them look different to the rest of the car.

item for auction kindly donated by @filce for the boffoonery gig. It's been singed by Sir Clive Sinclair.

It's nice that there is a genuine Zilog Z80 in that slot rather than a clone, I still love that chip.

Best 8-bit CPU ever to code on.

I mean look at it. It's perfect.

Ferranti invented the ASIC. Where are they now?

On a day out to the Castle Museum in York and it occurred to me that some of the displays would make perfect subjects for this retro style treatment.

Once I had this in my head I was spoilt for choice! Have a look at the full set.

The 5V voltage regulator from a ZX Spectrum 48K. I was probing it with my scope.

It worked fine, until I shorted and broke it, but they are cheap to replace.

TECHNICAL ALERT!

The huge heat sink is because the unregulated PSU... yes I don't get it either, why have a power brick that doesn't regulate the voltage?... for the Speccy delivers 9V in and the regulator dissipates the excess as heat.

NON-TECHNICAL VERSION:

Stuff happens that you don't understand or care about.

the Comics

Sad old fart that I am I do have a fondness for old computer games. In this case we have one of the later Ultimate Spectrum titles. A little past the greatness of Sabre Wulf and Knight Lore.

I've been getting some home-made ZX Spectrum programs off cassettes that have been various lofts for decades. Amazingly, most still load. See github.com/blogmywiki/ZXSpectrum for files you can load in emulators.
