Here comes a further panorama from that cloudy afternoon at lake Eibsee. At this moment clouds had already rapidly covered a bigger part of the mountains of Zugspitzmassiv but still most of the summits were visible. The panorama was merged from 6 single shots taken in portrait orientation with the 35 mm lens.

On time and with heritage equipment is Amtrak train 58, the City of New Orleans, northbound at the classic Illinois Central location of Manchac Pass. A perfect leader for what was essentially a perfect day out in the New Orleans area. Getting the Amtrak 164 on the point was a great bonus. No pesky lakeside clouds to ruin the shot either. I've shot more trains in this area the past two years than just about anywhere else. It's not hard to see why. This particular afternoon the CN McComb subdivision was humming with traffic. An hour or so after this the following A419 would make a dash across the bridge in the last minute and a half of golden hour sunlight behind a pair of home rails SD70 leaders. We'll take a look at that soon.

We got a couple of foggy days in the festive time of the year, where almost every single window is illuminated. I used this magic constellation of weather, daytime, and big-city lights to go out and play with my camera.

These pictures are the first ones I've put real effort into in years. I'm VERY rusty, as I think shows. The lighting was not good, and i used too many different light colors, making it difficult to correct.

Engineer Steve Harner gives the group of us gathered next to the infamous KCS Crew Lake trestle a thumbs up as the 2024 CPKC holiday express blasts across at track speed. A noon time departure from Vicksburg, Ms, for the evenings showing in Monroe, La, meant there would be beautiful light along the small bayou known as Crew Lake. Crew lake is one of the few locations where the wooden trestles that once dominated the still hold on along the main. This shot was one of the must have locations both directions on the 2024 run. If this was the last year for the current configuration of this train I'm glad it was done well...

My wife rearranged things on this table this afternoon. She put more stuff into the box Jane had claimed for herself. The poor cat now has to lie on a pile of plastic horses and rest her head on a flat car.
After the pic, I removed the flat car and generally fixed things up so the box would be nicer for the little girl again.
