"In November 2008, as I was looking at the "Grotto" (community space) of Sports Basement, a light bulb went on. And, I began to ponder over the idea of using Sports Basement's community space to serve the yoga community. So to get the ball rolling, I began to teach free yoga classes each Sunday at Sports Basement.

A month later, I organized the first yoga teacher schedule, began the internet promotions, and then watched the students arrive. Since that time, the seed has blossomed. And, Sports Basement has applied my initial concept to their other store locations.

And now, I would just like to express my thanks & gratitude to all the yoga students who have attended & all the yoga teachers who have supported the idea of "free yoga Sundays" - making yoga accessible to every individual regardless of financial status

Much love & thanks,"

Ojo Caliente is one of our most favorite weekend get away spots. Ojo is an historic hot springs resort and spa in Northern New Mexico, known for its unique mineral-rich, sulfur-free waters. Located in a secluded desert valley, the resort is one of the oldest natural health resorts in the United States, with a history of healing that dates back centuries, including use by Native Americans.

They have four distinct mineral types / pools to soak in... Lithia, Iron, Arsenic & Soda each with it's own purported therapeutic properties.

With my yoga students, I have repeatedly stressed developing the ability to become focused & not be moved by external forces. I encourage them to remove the influences of smell, touch, sound, vision and taste so that "one can see roses where there are roses & thorns where there are thorns." I invite them to develop a state of pratyahara.

And if you've attended one of my yoga classes you know that not only do I teach my students but also, I test my students. Regularly, I test my students on the sanskrit names of asanas. And now, once again,, I invite you to join us (each Sunday in August) as we challenge our minds.

Being a yoga enthusiast you may be well aware of the fact that yoga teacher training is quite popular these days. While for some it’s an opportunity to spread the word of yoga around the world but for some, it’s only a mean to deepen the practice.

Eric Lon stretches his spine with the dog pose when the dogs have a pose. Yoga brings peace and relaxation not only in the practioner, but also around him.

Various Tibetan yoga exercises look like hatha yoga, but with different breathing.

The Tibetan lion roaring is associated to the dof streching.

seated forward bend pose performed by our student at 200 hrs yoga TTC.

Inversions like this pose - Shoulderstand are so powerful because, as earthbound creatures, we are so strongly affected by the long-term impact of gravity. Over the years our bodies begin to, well ... sag. We can do a great deal to counteract its impact. Like the original yogis, we can cleverly beat gravity at its own game by turning the body upside down. This simple action benefits the whole body.
