5/52: Painting with Light

Myself on my YZ250, late 1970's.

This is my 50th year as a licenced motorcycle rider. I raced dirt bikes and road race bikes but they didn't hurt me much: it was a mountain bike that tried to ruin my life!! Now officially retired and on a pension. 10 spinal operations later after breaking my back in 2 places 20 years ago on a mountain bike ride.

Pain isn't just a frequent visitor nowadays; it's a constant companion. If you let it, pain will ruin what life you have left.

I decided that pain can't be allowed to dictate my life.

I'll usually carry a camera with me but I love motorcycle riding so much I rarely find the time to stop and take photos.

No, I don't leap 40' gaps now and I don't race as fast as I can through heavy forests but I do still ride and I do still love it. I still ride hard on the road and frequently pass young riders on much quicker bikes but I now ride fast slowly and rarely go over the 'ton'.

But I'm still here!
