Through some experiments, I found the fact that polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) seems to strongly protect Dollfie Dreams from color stains.

The following is the summary of my motivation and how to use PVA for Dollfie Dreams.

---

Not only I but all Dollfie Dream owners are always worried about color stains, that is, color transfer from dark-colored outfits or wigs to their doll bodies or heads. To prevent the staining, we often take special care of choosing clothes and wigs. I think this care is simply boring and seriously spoils moe of DDs. If there were a method to save DDs from the staining permanently, I would really enjoy my life with my daughters without any concern...!

To realize my wish, I have been looking for some material that makes some special coat protecting vinyl parts from the staining. Since I am neither a chemical scientist nor a pharmacist, (but a mad hobby scientist ;p,) it is hard to obtain some kind of reagents. So I frequently went DIY stores and considered which commodity chemical, including varnishes and glues, has good property for DDs. I bought several of them, such as vinyl acetate and polyurethane, and tried to make stain-proof coat by them, but many tries failed or were unreasonable.

Eventually I met wonderful material; polyvinyl alcohol (PVA). PVA is a polymer that have several good property, such as film forming, adhesive, flexibility, and in particular, excellent barrier and sealing property. Due to these benefits, it is expected that PVA may form a good barrier to shut out bleeding elasticizers and transferring dyes. My control experiment showed that PVA coat on vinyl skin perfectly avoids color staining. PVA may be magic potion that save us from the detestable color stains!

The following is the current practice of the stain-proof coat made from PVA. I am still working on improving the method, so It should be updated later.

Material Needed:

- Polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) solution. In Japan you can buy it at any supermarket as a bottle of synthesized clothing starch. Note that you need to choose the starch made only from PVA. My recommendation is the one made from Kuraray Poval, such as the one in the picture.

- Ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA) copolymer emulsion. You can find it at DIY stores as a kind of glue for paper, wood or fabric to plastic or metal. Note that you need to choose the one made only from EVA.

- Water. This is used as thinner of PVA and EVA. Less mineral included is preferable. In Japan tap water is enough.

- Silica powder. If you cannot obtain it, use baby powder instead.

Procedure:

1. Decompose your DD body and wash all parts well to get rid of greases, elasticizers and paintings on the surface.

2. Dilute EVA glue with water and spread it on the surface of each vinyl part. I think the thinner EVA layer yields the better result. You may skip this step if you don't want to make the coat strong.

3. Put silica powder to PVA solution and mix them well in order to make the coat mat.

4. Spread the liquid made at step 3 over the EVA layer. Note that PVA solution is hard to dry. At a time, make a flat and thin PVA coat and dry it well, and then make another thin coat over the previous one. Repeat this procedure a few times to form thick PVA layer. A dryer will help your fast and beautiful work. Note that too thick PVA layer makes the coat weak against friction.

5. Compose DD body to its original state.

Note:

- I DO NOT ENSURE THAT ANY COLOR STAINING IS AVOIDED BY THIS PROCEDURE. TRY AT YOUR OWN RISK.

- Make sure that the PVA coat covers the whole of the vinyl skin. Small holes are often created due to surface tension. In particular, be careful at corners and the top of raised portions.

- If you skip step 2, the coat is not so strong. It may be broken when you scratch its surface.

- The coat is not water-proof. Do not dip it to water.

- This procedure does not remove colors already stained. The coat is just for prevention.

- I don't know whether this coat is secure or not. But I believe it is secure. Safety test (for human and DD) is in progress.

Wearing her newest dress~ She is so cute!!!! <3

Finally my pictures from HKDP7! Not much, but it was my very VERY first huge asian dollpa, forgive me, my knees were weak and my hand were busy flailing and emptying my wallet, so when I decided to make some pictures, I couldn't muster any energy for it. I wish I could attend dollpa like this every year.....

six point antlers with white flocking and a tail with blush and flock on the bottom. :)

She has came home for nearly 1 month, she is the first white skin girl i have, and she is really white than what i thought. I keep her name Alice, cause think she is Alice. I am in China with her now. hope we have a nice holiday.
