I got a new pot of kitty grass to prevent me from chewing up this plant. I don't care if the Humans blow air on me or spray me because this is supposed to be poisonous. They drink alcohol and eat chocolate. That is poisonous too. I don't care much for the alcohol by the way, Big Human's beers smell weird, but the chocolate spread and avocados and raisins I love so much are all stuff the Human poisons herself with and she denies me all the fun. #YOLO

The Northern Harrier Hawk evolved to fill a unique ecological niche - it seems other raptors were not frustrating enough to attempt to photograph, so this one evolved to push me right over the edge. I think I'm going to be extinct soon from these birds!

Juvenile Bald Eagle in the Yolo Bypass Wildlife Area, the second I've seen there this year. I'm hoping it becomes a regular thing as the population expands.

We were drawn to the Yolo Basin as it is one of the few locations with a high percentage of birds in summer. We spotted this white faced ibis down a small trail. Contrary to its colonial feeding habits, this one was all by itself and scavenging in the water for tidbits of food. The white-faced ibis is very similar to the glossy ibis in its non-breeding plumages, but it tends to be slightly smaller and the plumage color is somewhat warmer. Breeding adults have a pink bare face bordered with white feathers (rather than a bluish bare face with no bordering feathers), a grey bill, and brighter colored, redder legs. Adults have red eyes year-round, whereas glossy ibises have dark eyes. Juveniles of the two species are nearly identical.

Fridays for Future - Climate strike

Berlin, Friday, September 20, 2019

An annual rite of passage for California Central Valley photographers like myself is photographing the sunflower fields in Yolo and Sacramento counties in July. Every year, the crops are rotated, so a favorite spot discovered one year, can be tall rows of corn or another crop the next. This year, I was out a little late in the season, but I found this vibrant field in Esparto, which had nice foothills in the background, a nice anomaly for the typical pancake flatness of the central valley.

On Saturday, we went to Yolo Wildlife Area at Davis to drive around and see some birds. We stayed for the sunset. It was pretty nice.
