My Dad stopping to feed a bear. Taken around 1960. Probably shouldn't do that. Although the bears do appear to have been better behaved back then. Mom and dad were on a western road trip with friends. This was probably taken in the Banff area.
A very old scan of my good friend's best buddy. Yogi looking tired after a grueling cross country hike/skiing jaunt.

In October 1992, our household was blessed with two American Bulldogs (Yogi and her mother Keef) and a young German Shepherd - enough, I'd say. A friend of ours who owned Yogi's sibling kept telling me about a guy across the street from him who had a gorgeous American Bulldog, and wanted me to see him; so I stopped by one day only to learn that American Bulldog had been killed the day before by one of the jerk's pitbulls that got off the chain...a long story...the dogs not in the best of shape and abused through neglect, but since they had "shelter" and "water" Animal Control could not seize them.
Two puppies caught my eye - the guy said they were three months old, but they looked very small and certainly way too thin. I asked him how much he wanted for them. He said $ 40 each...like I need to buy two bullies, I already have two...At the time I was making $ 5/hour and not even full-time. I talked him down to $ 40 for the both of them and bought them. Before I left he scooped them up, sat them in an empty shopping cart and before I could stop him poured some kind of highly toxic insecticide powder over them - to deflea them. I grabbed them, dusted them off best I could and took them home.
Of course, there was no way we could keep them. We vetted them up, fed them and socialized them, named them Justice (after the Braves' David Justice) and Independence (they were born on July 4), then Ruff and Reddy, and adopted them out. Ruff, the white one, went to a very nice home, was renamed Buster, but tragically died at age 2 after an 8-hour surgery to remove carpet from her intestines. Reddy went to a couple that lived near the Elder Covered Bridge - I didn't keep up with them, and often wonder what happened to the little red pitbull.
This photo was taken after several hours in the local dog park. Yogi just about passed out on the backseat, undisturbed by Ruff and Reddy wiggling all over her.
