Another shot of one of the YNP elk.

Lamar Valley was as pretty as I have seen it with green grass and buffalo scattered along its length.

Same tree as 1A and 1B, but from a lower shooting position.

The elk were bugling in Yellowstone Park today. It was fun see and hear them.

There was this swirling going on in the Merced river and a 15 second exposure captured the action.

here a small geyser spews hot water into the cold waters of the lake

Yellowstone Lake from the Lake Butte Overlook. Mount Sheridan is the snow-covered peak in the background, center left. The barren trees in the foreground are not deciduous trees that dropped their leaves early, but rather are snags from the Yellowstone fires of 1988 that scorched this area of the park very heavily.

Yellowstone Lake is the largest natural freshwater lake above 7,000 feet in the North America and is one of the largest such lakes in the world. Covering 136 square miles, it is 20 miles long by 14 miles wide and has 141 miles of shoreline. Average depth is 139 ft. and maximum depth about 390 ft. Situated at an elevation of 7,733 feet, the lake remains cold year-round, with an average temperature of 41°F. Winter ice nearly 3 ft. thick covers much of the lake except where shallow water covers hot springs and other geothermal features. The lake is frozen nearly half the year, freezing over by early December and remaining so until late May or early June.

We saw a couple wolves today in Yellowstone Park. They don't really pay much attention to people, which is understandable. There is a group of people who watch the wolves daily - summer and winter.

This was take at Artist point - A cliff at south point of Yellowstone National Park's Grand Canyon. Here we see the lower falls. To make the scene more dramatic, i merged it with Eagles' peak.

Thanks for stopping by and hope everyone enjoys it !

We saw lots of these guys in the park last weekend...

From the archives....Ah, I remember this day like it was yesterday. We left the Lamar Valley, headed back to Gardiner for the evening. As we approached the Tower-Roosevelt Junction, we both spotted this coyote, way off in the distance, traveling in the same general direction we were headed. So we parked the SUV off the side of the road, and I positioned myself for a few shots from inside the nice warm vehicle. Instead of veering away from us, he kept coming right towards us, dredging through the deep snow like he was breaking trail. He eventually walked right past my window, crossed the road, and continued on his winter journey.

No snow here last night, at least none that was still around this morning when we were leaving for work, but the change in temps has been drastic, from a high of 66 degrees Fahrenheit yesterday to a morning low today of 21 degrees Fahrenheit. Winter is definitely right around the corner :-) Have a great Wednesday, and as always, thanks for all your visits and comments!!!!!

This coyote was eating something and didn't look like he wanted to share his meal - which was fine with me. It didn't look all that good anyway.

Lamar Valley is full of buffalo...

The many colors & looks of Excelsior Geyser. Every second is different & compelling.

We found this place to be totally mesmerizing!

Would love your opinions on this one....

Taken around the Canary Spring area on Upper Terrace Drive in YNP.

Biscuit Basin is situated halfway between Grand Prismatic Spring & Old Faithful

I loved the close proximity and contrast of the turquoise hot springs & deep blue Firehole River
