The Yellow-bellied Sapsucker is a very enterprising woodpecker.
It makes two kinds of holes in trees to harvest sap.
Round holes extend deep in the tree and are not enlarged. Rectangular holes are shallower, and must be maintained continually for the sap to flow. New holes are made in a line with old holes. It’s always easy to identify their trees! Photographed on Hilton Head Island, SC, USA
Coldplay - Yellow
Look at the stars,
Look how they shine for you,
And everything you do,
Yeah, they were all yellow.
I came along,
I wrote a song for you,
And all the things you do,
And it was called "Yellow".
So then I took my turn,
Oh what a thing to have done,
And it was all yellow.
Your skin,
Oh yeah your skin and bones,
Turn into
Something beautiful,
Do you know,
You know I love you so,
You know I love you so.
I swam across,
I jumped across for you,
Oh what a thing to do.
'Cause you were all yellow,
I drew a line,
I drew a line for you,
Oh what a thing to do,
And it was all yellow.
Somewhere between Heaven and Earth... I was laying in the dirt *again* to take a picture of this beautiful flower!

A yellow iris, in our yard. They come back from underground every year, or most of them do. Beautiful complex flowers.
I am pleased to be curator of a Gallery of fine photos of iris flowers, by other photographers. You are invited to visit it.
Thanks for looking! Isn't God a great artist?
Yellow Warbler - Setophaga petechia
John Heinz NWR is the yellow warbler capital of the world right now. Spotted at least a dozen and likely heard fifty more. In the three years that I have been chasing birds, this is my first decent photo of a yellow warbler. Feel free to view large (L).
It's Sunday...Relax and have fun!
A splash of sunshine yellow! Inula helenium also called
elecampane / allicampane.

Yellow-rumped Warbler is pretty much on a par with Yellow Warbler in terms of the geographical extent of its breeding range, being found in most treed areas of the North American continent. Still, it is a treat to appreciate the colours of this species wherever and whenever. I took the image of this individual on the last day of our Nova Scotia trip, at Porters Lake Provincial Park in Halifax County.
