Long time no flowers, miss them. Gardening season, after finishing the yard work, no energy for taking photos, but found one from previous year ;))

Have a great week my dear Flickr friends! :))

Male Indigo Bunting perched on lupine WPD22Animals, and my best shot of 2022

I chased this fellow around the field behind my house for quite a while before he finally landed on a lupine stalk and allowed me to take his photo. I just love the colors and bokeh.

Thank you everyone for liking this image.

I don't think they minded a nested Paddy :) A wee walk in Glen Garry .. most of the trees in this area of tte woodland are spruce, Norway and Sitka, and been thinned enough to allow a carpet of mosses to develop. Paddy is very easy to photograph .. you tell him where to go and get him to 'wait' .. his 'brother' Smudge, on the other hand, wants to do anything but stay in one place and certainly doesn't want to look at me! :) .. a year's worth of Smudge photos .. can I manage it? 🤔

Just Perfect!

On Saturday 27th August, me and my family were on holiday in Alderney in The Channel Islands to visit my grandparents. I had done some research and found that Alderney has incredibly low light pollution, and began planning a shot on Photopills months in advance, as photographing and seeing the Milky Way core is incredible rare for me. On the 27th, my Dad drove us to the other side of the island, to Mannez Quarry, as the skies were mostly clear for the planned date. This location looks directly upwards at The Odeon, and the Milky Way was due to rise directly above The Odeon. Many of my first images were misfocused, as I had forgotten to apply the manual focusing technique, but I corrected my mistake in time to take this image. In front of The Odeon, (Behind where my camera was pointing) was a lighthouse, which would emit 4 flashes of light every 8 seconds, which allowed The Odeon to be exposed properly within the shot, and not photographed as a silhouette.

For the shot, I used my Nikon D3500, and hired a 20mm F1.4 astrophotography lens from hire a camera, which was incredibly good for my photograph.

Alderney & The Odeon Historical Context;

Alderney has a dark past from World War 2, as during WW2, the island was captured by Nazis & controlled by the Axis powers. The Odeon was built by forced labour in 1943 by prisoners of war and “was intended as a naval range-finding position to observe enemy ships and was to be part of a network with five other similar towers placed around the island. The rounded front section was for observation and the rear section for accommodation and target plotting.”

On a flight from Copenhagen to Aalborg, the plane was overbooked and staff asked if someone was willing to sit in the cockpit with the pilots. I quickly "volunteered"...

And when the pilots also allowed me to shoot all the photos I wanted to, I was happy like I was a little boy again 😊

It was a hot day. Also in the cockpit...

In the right window, I'm pretty sure we are looking over Roskilde Fjord and Eskilsø.
