XHTML, photos on Flickr

Several things to see here. Firstly the page should be viewable at 800 pixels but not perfectly formatted. The main thing is it should be viewable at most reasonable browser ratios. The site is designed for large screens.

The left hand side is busy with static text. The centre has frequently changing posts with a max of about 4 posts visible at any one time. The right hand side has about the past 20 posts and urls.

When you click on a title it takes you to the detail page.

The detail page tries to use as much space as possible using a larger type face. The menu remains but I switch it to the right hand side to avoid interference with the body text.

The title when clicked takes you to the original url the post refers to. At some time I'll include the link information on this page along with other meta data.

To navigate back to the index page you click the heading image. At the moment I've removed the text in the image.

problems

There are numerous problems.

* the balance between the amount of text you can show and read. This tension means I might have erred one way or another.

* the title graphic has problems when it comes to screen readers.

* the main image is too heavy. It's possible that adding non-clickable "snip" into urls will confuse people.

* the layout has yet to be tested on various browsers

* long urls break the right hand border when they appear in the centre

* invalid characters are finding their way into the input because I have yet to write a smart input filter

* tags: I've not fully implemented them yet

* outlining allowing me to model parent/child relationships and allowing OPML or XOXO support

* Image support

* image uploader to flickr

* image downloader from flickr

* api for input using REST. I dearly want this but have yet to find a suitable REST framework in use for django and may end up using some other mehtod (webpy

* extractor to extract static pages

* url patterns for dates (/2007/4/30.html) and (/2007/4/some-title-for-article.html)
