Gebouwen
Skippool Creak is located along the river Wyer near to Poulton, Blackpool and the Fylde Coast; popular with walkers who like boats and to take in the surrounding scenery. Today Skippool Creak is the home to a boat graveyard with may disused and abandoned boats. Some of these boats have been there for many years and vary in size and condition; some of which are quite large. Once a year, for the past 100 years or so, a popular race called the ‘Dash’ takes place on the river in this area. The place is littered with old rickety and very dangerous piers which were used many years ago by smugglers to land their goods without paying taxes. Smuggling took place in many coastal areas where ships could offload their goods without attracting too much attention from officials. Skippool Creak was one such place.
The 1955 Ast
on Martin DB3S is one of only 20 examples built for customer use and served as the 1955 Earls Court Motor Show car. After a racing career that included podium finishes at Snetterton and Silverstone, chassis DB3S/111 was the centerpiece of the Forshaw Collection for approximately 40 years. An original race car, this DB3S boasts a traditional Aston Martin racing green exterior with a green leather and plaid interior.
Following the failure of the heavy and uncompetitive Aston Martin DB3 designed by Eberan Eberhorst; William Watson, employed as Eberhorst's assistant, presented an alternative design to John Wyer, Aston Martin's competitions manager, whose assistance was needed as Eberhorst could well oppose being up-staged. In total 31 cars were made, with 11 works cars and 20 cars being sold for customer use.
The DB3S was introduced in 1953 and it proved significantly more successful than the Aston Martin DB3. Although the DB3S failed at Le Mans they went on to score a 1-2 at the Tourist Trophy at Dundrod in the 6th round of the inaugural World Sports Car Championship to help Astons to 3rd in the championship. As well there was a win in the non championship Goodwood 9 Hours.
1955 saw a return to form. Astons missed the opening two rounds at Buenos Aires and Sebring and the sole DB3S failed to finish at the Mille Miglia but Collins/Frere finished 2nd at Le Mans and Walker/Poore scored a 4th at the Tourist Trophy behind the dominant 1, 2, 3 of the Mercedes 300SLR to finish 5th in the championship. There was also time for another win in the non championship Goodwood 9 Hours.
By 1956 the design was starting to show its age and Astons were putting their resources into the development of the new DBR1 but the DB3S still finished 4th at Sebring and 5th at the Nurburging 1000Km to finish 4th in the championship together with another second at Le Mans in the hands of Moss/Collins although due to the change of regulations following the 1955 disaster this latter event was a non championship race.
The DBR1 now took over as Astons main sports racer but there was one last swan song for the DB3S in the hands of the Whitehead brothers at Le Mans in 1958 with a second place after all the works DBR1s failed to finish.
The DBR1, co-driven by Carol Shelby in his 'chicken farmer overalls' beat Ferrari and won both the 1959 LeMans outright, as well as the works championship for that year.

This car was bought new in 1970 by Solar Productions (Steve McQueen's production company) in order to be driven by McQueen in some scenes of the movie "Le Mans" in the iconic Gulf colors and #20 number, just as the Jo Siffert / Brian Redman car.
After the film it was raced for a short period of time before being owned by Brian Redman, Richard Attwood. It is now part of the Jerry Seinfeld collection.

First 30285, formerly GMbuses 5302 was a Northern Counties, MCW Metrobus that had been new in 1986. After withdrawal by First Manchester in the early 2000s, the bus was acquired by the SELNEC Preservation Society. On the sad loss of the SELNEC Preservation Society's founder Anthony Wyer, a large number of ex Manchester buses acquired by the Society were disposed of.
Parked outside for a number of years, 5302 was stripped for spares and the hulk complete with its running units was dispatched to PVS of Carlton for disposal. The bus is seen on its arrival at the breaker's yard on 21st July 2017.
On the upside, I know that both the engine and the gearbox out of the bus found new owners, but the rest of the vehicle would have been broken up not long after this photo was taken.
Former Stagecoach / Magic Bus 13030 is carefully manoeuvred out of the holding lot for the short journey to the breaking area at PVS's recycling yard at Carlton, S Yorks.
The Northern Counties bodied Leyland Olympian had started life in July 1984 with Greater Manchester PTE. Numbered 3030, the bus was later acquired by Stagecoach, finishing its service days on Stagecoach's Magic Bus operation in Manchester prior to its withdrawal in c2005.
The bus had been initially been saved for posterity by the SELNEC Preservation Society, who were amassing a large number of ex Manchester buses.
Along with other SELNEC PS vehicles, 3030 was stored in open-air premises at Oakenshaw. Sadly, these buses eventually attracted the wrong kind of attention, and a number of buses were vandalised. 3030 lost most of its windows as a consequence, allowing water ingress.
When SELNEC PS founder Anthony Wyer tragically passed away in 2017, much of the SELNEC PS fleet was disposed of. With mounting storage costs, and little prospect of 3030 finding a new home, the scrap man became its next owner, 3030 meeting its fait accompli in July 2017.

The Porsche 917 is a sports prototype race car developed by German manufacturer Porsche. The 917 gave Porsche its first overall wins at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1970 and 1971. Powered by the Type 912 flat-12 engine of 4.5, 4.9, or 5 litres, the 917/30 Can-Am variant was capable of a 0-62 mph (100 km/h) time of 2.3 seconds, 0–124 mph (200 km/h) in 5.3 seconds. The long tail Langheck version had a maximum measured top speed of 362 km/h (225 mph).
The 1971 model was a further development of the 1970 917L and was also made specifically to compete in only one race: the 1971 Le Mans 24 Hours. The car was also more stable than its 1970 predecessor because of new bodywork and revised suspension set ups and partially enclosed rear wheels covers. The front section was also redesigned.
The three LHs were run at Le Mans in 1971: two were run by John Wyer's team (SER#917L-043 and 917L-045) (Both Gulf livery) and one was run by the Martini International team, (SER#917L-042) (Silver Martini Racing livery). Although Jackie Oliver qualified one of the Wyer 917LHs on pole position, none of the three cars finished the race. This was the last race in which the 917LHs were run in.
Only three 917Ls survive and each is on display in a museum: 917L-042 is on display at the Porsche museum in Stuttgart, 917L-043 is on display at the Simeone Foundation Automotive Museum in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and 917L-045 displayed at the Le Mans museum. 045 was repainted like 042 and they are now both painted in identical 1971 Martini colours. Chassis 043 ( 044 ), which is now in the Simeone Foundation Automotive Museum, was restored to its 1970 Martini 'hippie' colours prior to its sale in the 1998 Christie's Pebble Beach auction. LH is non-factory term used here but is generally accepted by most to describe the 'rework' for the 1971 season of the previous 1970 L models.

Lestes sponsa, is a damselfly, with a wide Palaearctic distribution. It is known commonly as the Emerald Damselfly or Common Spreadwing. Both males and females have a metallic green colour and when resting its wings are usually half opened.
One of the many gems acquired by the SELNEC Preservation Society in the 1990s was ONF865H. Formerly SELNEC / GMPTE 1177, a 75-seat Park Royal bodied Leyland PDR2/1 'Mancunian' that had been new to SELNEC (Central) in September 1970.
Driven by the late Anthony Wyre, founder and leader of the SELNEC Preservation Society, 1177 was being shunted as part of a move around of vehicles at their premises in Robertshaw Street, Leigh on 22nd September 1996. The building in which these buses were kept has since been demolished.
I cannot recall what the intensions were for this vehicle, or where the Society had obtained it from? I'm sure that someone will assist me in this regard? At the time it was a runner and could move under its own power.
Tragically, Anthony Wyer passed away on the 18th February 2017, aged 62. A barrister by profession, he became well known for his enthusiastic efforts in the preservation of former SELNEC & GMPTE buses. Since 2013, much of the Society's collection, which had grown to a considerable number has been disposed of.

1969 Porsche 917-017(004)
Originally built as Chassis 004, this 917 is very significant as it is the first one to go a full race distance, by finishing 8th of the 1000 km Nürburgring on June 1st, 1969 (David Piper / Frank Gardner). At this time the 917 was undrivable and factory drivers prefered the old 908 (with success for Jo Siffert and Brian Redman who won the race).
004 was raced a second time at Brands Hatch in April 1970 in a K configuration with the Gulf John Wyer team. Jo Siffert and Brian Redman would retire.
