Late forties or early fifties, I think. Stitched together from four different scans; the actual wrapper is still intact.

Do you remember the Gum Wrapper Chains?

I chose my favorite color - blue. I created a pattern across my quilt that looks like the gum wrapper chains that I made when I was a little girl. Combining my favorite color with a very pleasing memory from my childhood, when things were simple, really makes for a very special quilt. A quilt that brings back good memories.

It looks great on my dinning room table with my blue dishes. It will start a conversation with friends and family about the good old days! I like to run my hand over the quilt and feel the texture of the gum wrapper chains traversing across the quilted table cloth.

Thanks Kim for another fun challenge!

I will be posting on my blog marciascraftysewing.blogspot.com/2013/01/do-you-remember-... about it later today --- If we don't loose power with this freezing rain and snow.

My partner has MS - this is 2 months' worth of her Rebif (Interferon) injections. (Three times a week, in the butt.) It's not an enjoyable experience, nor was it working for her after several years. She began a new treatment in November '07, a monthly infusion called Tysabri. She already feels better. For more information about MS, click here: www.nationalmssociety.org

Storage tin wrapped with the wrapper that I have sewn for the St.Nicholas swap. It is joined by buttons and ribbons which provide a really snug fit.

I am making a few ornaments to go in the tin plus some other items my partner suggested they might like in a jar of delights!!

After all, "frivolous" is just another of those relative concepts. There are no hard and fast lines. Are there? The question prompted me to look up a few thoughts about frivolous buying. One of the more interesting finds is a discussion titled "God’s View: It’s Okay to Have Nice Things!" The commentary concludes with "So if your heart is in the right place with God and you’ve worked hard to succeed, don’t let anyone tell you not to enjoy it."

In this case, the "it" was a nice new red Cadillac. Oh boy.

Which reminds me of a family episode from ages ago. An old Norwegian bachelor farmer had scrimped and saved all his life and accumulated a pretty substantial amount of assets. He would've liked to take it with him but, alas, of course, he couldn't. So ... when some in the family, who could have been heirs, found that he had willed most of his estate to three or four favorite radio evangelists, there was some heated discussion and speculation that the Rev. So-and-So would be wasting no time about going to buy a new Cadillac.

Plastic wrappers woven together by Mexican crafters form the outside of a stylish, orange-a-licious purse my Mom bought for my daughter in the San Antonio Mercado a couple of years ago.

I have commandeered it as my own. The color orange rules. Long live orange.

Starting a virtual instant noodle wrapper collection. I try to find wrappers that are visually interesting in some way. This particular wrapper illustrates an overflowing noodle bowl with shrimp, mushrooms, and an egg. The two-tone chicken illustration is pretty cool as well.

It had to be done. My own handmade wrappers for the knitted wristwarmers. It looks so much more professional. But I had to give them a personal touch...

"Tell your mother she did a great job," the teacher said. "But how did you...," I started to say. And suddenly, on that very moment 40 years ago I realized that cheating doesn't work. She knew. Somehow she had figured out that it was my mother who had finished the pink doll scarf. I had been struggling with it and crying over it to get the job done. So much, that my mother took the thing out of my hands and finished it to the required length. I was so happy that my torture had come to an end that I failed to see the very obvious difference in knitting. The part that I had been able to do was filthy, full of increases and decreases that were not suppose to be there and the part my mother had done was absolutely flawless.

I do not need my mother to finish my knitting anymore, because I can do that myself. But, how I wish she could do it again for me. Because that would mean she was still here with me...

Mijn kwelling was ten einde.
