The thread looked neatly wound around these bobbins at first, but the bobbins continually toppled. I finally let threads dangle.

Almost 4cm/1.57 inches tall. These just look large because the Laowa lens lets me move the lens in almost touching the subject and then magnifies by two.

In January 2022 I asked a Flickr support hero to remove me from the Explore algorithm. I feel more relaxed and in the moment.

"It has been said, 'time heals all wounds.' I do not agree. The wounds remain. In time, the mind, protecting its sanity, covers them with scar tissue and the pain lessens. But it is never gone."

-Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy

🌲Tree resin (along with other gum and latex fluids) plays an extremely important function in trees by rapidly sealing over wounds used as introductory pathways by invading insects and fungal disease agents. Organisms that try to enter a tree via a wound can be flushed out, can become stuck and trapped in the seal and can be overcome by the resin's toxicity. In any event, consistent resin flow is essential to the continued health of most conifers.

I see a fair share of death and the wounded in nature because both are a part of everyday life. Anyone who spends any time at all in nature will see things you don't really want to see. I help who I can but the outcome is usually completely out of my hands. This bunny has a puncture would on the chest and just under the chin so something most likely grabbed it by the throat but bunny got away. This was taken about a week after I noticed the wounds and had greatly improved in that time. I always take photos to document any improvement or decline. I will never post the gory things I see but this one seemed to be a success story.

Wounded Beauty. A natural bouquet of pink almond blossoms resting gently on a wounded branch, like a good fairy ready to heal her injured mother. So delicate, so airy, a little bunch of pink clouds of roses, in a world of blue and green bubbles, upon a brilliant sunny March day.

This young Exmoor stag had been chased away from a group of hinds by a much larger stag several times throughout the morning but judging from the fresh wound by his left ear he must have got too close for comfort.

Weaver ants moving a dead millipede.

Wikipedia: Weaver ants or green ants (genus Oecophylla) are eusocial insects of the family Formicidae (order Hymenoptera). Weaver ants live in trees (they are obligately arboreal) and are known for their unique nest building behavior where workers construct nests by weaving together leaves using larval silk. Colonies can be extremely large consisting of more than a hundred nests spanning numerous trees and containing more than half a million workers. Like many other ant species, weaver ants prey on small insects and supplement their diet with carbohydrate-rich honeydew excreted by small insects (Hemiptera). Weaver ant workers exhibit a clear bimodal size distribution, with almost no overlap between the size of the minor and major workers. The major workers are approximately 8–10 mm (0.31–0.39 in) in length and the minors approximately half the length of the majors. Major workers forage, defend, maintain, and expand the colony whereas minor workers tend to stay within the nests where they care for the brood and 'milk' scale insects in or close to the nests.

Weaver ants vary in color from reddish to yellowish brown dependent on the species. Oecophylla smaragdina found in Australia often have bright green gasters. Weaver ants are highly territorial and workers aggressively defend their territories against intruders. Because they prey on insects harmful to their host trees, weaver ants are sometime used by indigenous farmers, particularly in southeast Asia, as natural biocontrol agents against agricultural pests. Although weaver ants lack a functional sting they can inflict painful bites and often spray formic acid directly at the bite wound resulting in intense discomfort.

7 Days With Flickr - Crazy Tuesday Theme: Fill the Frame

Alors, si vous me demandez pourquoi

Personne d'autre

Ne pourrait jamais me faire me sentir

Si vivant

J'espérais qu'elle ne me quitterait jamais

Seigneur, vous devez me croire

J'ai cherché dans tout l'univers

Et je me suis trouvé

Dans ses yeux

Peu importe comment j'essaye

Personne d'autre

Ne pourrait jamais me faire me sentir

Si vivant

J'espérais qu'elle ne me quitterait jamais

Seigneur, vous devez me croire

Saw this Mink on 2 different occasions on the frozen shores of Lake Ontario. He has some sort of injury on his tail, might be the cost of escaping from a Snowy Owl in the same area.

This was my alternative image for the 7/17/17 Macro Monday theme for Texture. For guitar players, they know all too well the texture of playing their fingers on this wound metal.

After watching this rose leaf so many things was going on in my mind! And then i thought it would be better if i take photos of it in black and white.

The Bullet holes on the driver's side of the windshield made me wonder what the story was. The car graveyard on the road to Viking, MN. I believe this is a late 50's Studebaker truck.

Rocky Coulee Recreation Area, Columbia River and the Channeled Scablands, Vantage, Washington

A week after my rainforest hike, I experienced the complete opposite, heading east to chase the annual Spring wildflower bloom in the desert areas on the eastern side of the Cascade Crest. I did find an abundance of wildflowers blooming in the dry and arid landscape (and hopefully will have time to upload photos of them soon), but it was the fascinating geology of this area that I found equally compelling to my eyes and camera.

These coulees were formed by massive Ice Age floods, the explanation for which took decades of research and controversy to establish. Hiking through this landscape is literally walking on the scars of those floods and there is something powerful about connecting so closely with millions of years of geologic history. Combined with a stop at a nearby state park to view pieces of petrified wood that are over 10 million years old, it was an emphatic reminder that in the big picture of things, one's personal human history is pretty small and insignificant :-)

For those who may have further interest and some time to read, here is additional info about the history and geology of the area:
