This photograph shows blossom in different stages of emerging from a Prunus x Cistena cherry tree growing in my garden in South Wales.

It was taken a few hours after I received my first dose of the covid-19 vaccine in April 2021, just as my shoulder was beginning to ache, making it a little uncomfortable to capture the image while holding the camera without a tripod.

The most prominent flower in the photograph had a petal that had been damaged by the wind. The red spot on that petal resembled a tiny pinprick of blood, reminding me again of my aching shoulder, but also giving me the title of the image - "Wounded Blossom".

Knife wound created with gelatin, Skin Illustrator, Ben Nye Stage Blood and Thick Blood, and cotton.

A picture of a watch without anything else is at worst an image of someone else’s art and at best can be a showcase for the photographer’s expertise at exposure and composition. This image has more meaning to me than you may grasp at first glance so I’ll complete the story here. SPOILER ALERT: It’s a bit long so if you’d like to skip it ... that’s Okay. Just remember to enjoy Today.

The title may attract the attention of a few people already familiar with the acronym. More later ... I purchased the timepiece pictured some 50 or more years ago and it has always been a disappointment ... it still looks almost pristine! It’s promise was that it was self-winding, that is by some engineering magic once it was wound and put on my wrist it somehow was supposed to stay wound enough to keep “good time”. Well, here’s the basic truth; if I wind it up and let it lay on the shelf it will keep perfect time until it runs down in a couple of days. If put it on my wrist it will randomly stop for 5 or 10 minutes at a time from the first hour on ... making it functionally useless!

In the mid-80s after a life changing event I learned that I can only live One Day at a Time (ODaaT). I realized this independent worthless timepiece is in fact a constant reminder that I only have today ... yesterday is history and tomorrow is not yet in play.

It has no other numbers than today’s calendar number and day ... today ... if I keep it wound. My every attempt to use it for my purposes by wearing it ... my actions ... screws up it’s basic time keeping function so if I let go and let it do it’s thing on the shelf all works just fine. I’m some 16 years into retirement and I removed my “working” watch the day I retired ... I know where time is being kept and I can freely live TODAY. If you got this far Happy Macro Monday ... and enjoy today. HMM Everyone.

This pretty little bee had a wounded wing. It kept jumping from leaf to leaf, but finally stayed still for a few photos.

Eastern block of the Robin Hood Gardens estate, Poplar. Now undergoing demolition (the western block having already been demolished and new housing built in its place).

It was designed in a Brutalist style by architects Alison and Peter Smithson and completed in 1972.

Laura is always such a wonderful, effortless model to collaborate with (and an amazing photographer too!). I'm also thrilled with how the dress and "wound" came out!

Sadly many of the old fishing huts and other remnants have completely collapsed or disappeared. Every time I visit Dungeness, there is at least one less thing to photograph. Apart from a few of the old boat wrecks you now need to sear out for llittle details. This rusty post and cable caught my eye for a low shot with the 35mm prime.

The number of Veterans with PTSD varies by service era: Operations Iraqi Freedom (OIF) and Enduring Freedom (OEF): About 11-20 out of every 100 Veterans (or between 11-20%) who served in OIF or OEF have PTSD in a given year.

A study released in 2022 found that as many as 44 veterans die on average per day from suicide when accounting overlooked causes of death that are aligned with suicidal and self harm behavior, which is 2.4 times greater than the official estimate.

All who bear this are strong men and women who have served. there is people out there wiling and wanting to help you. as a veteran advocate i stand with you no matter what. The picture i did captures the mental toll of war in an older man with his younger shelf placing his hand on his shoulder.

if you are a veteran and is seeking help here is a list of places for you.

We spent days waiting for the Americans. By the time the armored columns arrived we had only rifles to defend ourselves. I was hit in the side, it felt like my insides were turned inside out and on fire. We had no medical supplies left, no rockets, I didn't even have my helmet. We had to surrender, it was the only way we could survive. The Americans would treat my wounds, feed us, shelter us. Better than death, and even death is preferable to anything we could expect with the Russians. Anything is better than the Russians. Anything.

I travel down into the darkness

My wounds searing on the way

I find the true face of evil

And my fears melt away

This image and the above excerpt are from my poem 'Wounds' which I have just put up on my website on the new page 'Revelations.'

This beautiful Victorian Stained Glass is still giving us the narratives for the stories we need. I am inspired every time I visit the church in Glynde, East Sussex. UK.
