Juvenile Great Blue Heron with Snapping Turtle, Wildwood Lake, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. I don't think I've ever seen a Great Blue Heron with a Turtle before. We haven't had any rain in a while and the lake is low. It seems that the waterfowl are resorting to alternative sources for food.
We were sitting with our backs against the world
Saying things that we thought but never heard
Who would have thought it would end up like this?
Where everything we talked about is gone
And the only chance we have of moving on
Is try to take it back
Before it all went wrong....
THE SCRIPT -
I been on my worst behavior
But baby, I don't need no savior
I'm way outta line
But I kind of like the way I
Feel when I just don't give a fuck
Oh, I forgot to mention
I'll be there in five

This photo was terribly under-exposed yet I love the story it tells. This was taken at the peak of the pandemic, in the midst of a tumultous election. There is a sense of discord yet serenity to the image. I hope you enjoy!
Fern leaves about to emerge on the bank of the Taieri river. In the background the yellow is gorse flowers, considered by many to be New Zealand's worst scrub weed and full of sharp spikes. It was originally introduced to New Zealand for hedges, but now occupies large areas of hillcountry.
Have a good week and thanks for visiting southern NZ.

The Queens train en route to St Austell for tea at the Eden Project with all the members of the G7.
Unfortunately the word got out and a crowd of well wishers gathered on the sea wall in their posh frocks and hats to give her a wave.
The train was delayed at Exeter due to trespassers on the line. A bad day to trespass as the rozzers were on them within seconds.
My previous post showed a prairie dog on high alert, mainly because this crazy photographer was sitting on the ground taking its picture. One of the reasons why they are so skittish. is prairie dogs are one of the favorite meals of golden eagles. A golden eagle will soar high above the ground, and with its keen eyesight, spot a potential meal below. Silently it will swoop down towards its unsuspecting prey. Shown here is the aftermath of the stalk. No, it's not pretty but nature can be very brutal.
My sincere thanks to all who spend the time to view, like or comment on my photos. It is much appreciated!

Pulhapanzak waterfall, Honduras, taken under very challenging light and with water drops falling on the lens every now and then, best to visit in cloudy weather, but there won't be a rainbow in that case, anyway I visited on a weekday and had the whole place to myself, easily accessible by car though the road is a dusty pothole ridden mess for the last part.
Happy weekend to everyone.
This photo was taken on October 23rd, 2005, on the last day of my first trip to New York city. A huge leap of faith, one of the largest I had ever taken. It was indeed a trip that was to forever change my life. And with each subsequent trip there, more opportunities to travel - 2006 to Seattle, 2007 to Detroit, and many more trips to the city that never sleeps. And on each journey I met fellow photographers who would touch my soul and heart in such a profound way, life and self discovery expanded at exponential speed. I was no longer afraid of who I was, what my art had to say, what i wanted to be, where i wanted to go. That period was not without tears, pain, loving and letting go, but within that vulnerability I drew strength and courage. I felt alive. It all felt right.
It's odd, how our perceptions of the world around us, as well as the perceptions we have of ourselves change over time.
This image once symbolized unapologetic vulnerability and delicate fearlessness, but looking at it again, 4 years later, I see melancholy, reservation and fearful naiveté. It is me, has always been me, but what is different? When I look in the mirror, I don't see this same woman. Something in the eyes has shifted, been displaced, lost in the shuffle of daily struggles. Life in New York, Seattle, Detroit has moved on, but i feel as if I am frozen in time, my life, hyphenated, struggling to find balance again, to be inspired, to find my way back to my passion, purpose, simple things that once made me very happy.
My camera has now become a utilitarian machine, serving no other purpose than to document the world around me. I ask myself every day - will i ever find that inspiration again? That passion to create, the courage to be fearless?
Mom goes in for her next scan at the end of the month, and then a subsequent meeting with her oncologist on the 4th of December. There are two ways this could turn out - the cancer can come back, or she can be free of cancer. Two ways our Christmas could turn out - a white happy Christmas, or a grey sad one. We pray for the best, hope for recovery but prepare for the worst.
Perhaps that is what is happening now with my photography - I'm praying for inspiration, hoping for discovery but preparing for creative closure.
Perhaps these wounds I have collected over these past 4 years need time to heal, but it also makes me realize the necessity of finding a way back to a medium that once helped me process the world around me, and that this might be the only way to make sense of the world again. But there is fear. Fear of what i will see in the next self portrait; but is a leap of faith I must take one more time.
The Ridgeway National Trail passes through a surprisingly remote part of southern central England. From its start in the World Heritage Site of Avebury, it follows a ridge of chalk hills in a north-easterly direction for 87 miles (139 Km) to reach Ivinghoe Beacon lying to the northwest of London. Popularly known as ‘Britain’s oldest road’, The Ridgeway still follows the same route over the high ground used since prehistoric times by travellers, herdsmen and soldiers.
My first attempt at really pushing the effects and masking in Lightroom. As a non-driver I'm usually at my chosen location between 11 and 3pm; probably the worst time for any atmosphere or drama in any landscape and I find it really frustrating! So I may play more with tricks in Lightroom to compensate. Not sure about this one though, perhaps I should practice more. Great fun though!

Red Fox
The Red Fox, Vulpes vulpes, is the largest of the true foxes and the most abundant wild member of the Carnivora, being present across the entire Northern Hemisphere from the Arctic Circle to North Africa, North America and Eurasia. It is listed as least concern by the IUCN. Its range has increased alongside human expansion, having been introduced to Australia, where it is considered harmful to native mammals and bird populations. Due to its presence in Australia, it is included among the list of the "world's 100 worst invasive species".
