World Water Day is an annual United Nations (UN) observance day held on 22 March that highlights the importance of fresh water. The day is used to advocate for the sustainable management of freshwater resources. The theme of each day focuses on topics relevant to clean water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), which is in line with the targets of Sustainable Development Goal 6. The UN World Water Development Report (WWDR) is released each year around World Water Day.
I made one of my favorite photographs two years ago, it was a picture of my older son, and now I made another of my younger one, which I found pretty similar, what do you think? (see the one on comments).

Not to forget:
There is a much worse threat for our planet than Corona!!!
"The climate crisis is a water crisis. The most disastrous consequence of global warming is how it impacts the water cycle. We can already see this in the form of increasingly devastating floods and droughts. The alarming melting of snow and ice contributes to rising sea levels, more unpredictable rainfall patterns and a growing number of extreme weather events. Eventually, the changes to the water cycle, combined with extremely hot temperatures, could make large parts of Earth uninhabitable. To avoid this, we must tackle the climate crisis as the water crisis it is. "

That's essential to life. Today, 1.8 billion people use a source of drinking water contaminated with faeces, putting them at risk of contracting cholera, dysentery, typhoid and polio. www.worldwaterday.org/
We must do whatever we can to preserve the few sources of clean water we still have. For Earth, for all species, including us.
Happy World Water Day!

Totally ironic that, on World Water Day, we all came home this evening to messages from our local DPW saying that Western MA is no longer in a drought. And that our 8-month long water ban has been lifted. Thanks to the 15+ inches of snow last week, from Winter Storm Stella, reservoirs and water supply aquifers are back to normal levels.
This is a massive, old, 4-stories-tall oak tree next door as seen through the fury of Stella's lashing snow. One of my favorite trees in the neighborhood...with many stories to tell. ❤️️
World Water Day is an annual UN observance day (always on 22 March) that highlights the importance of freshwater.
The theme of 2019 is about tackling the water crisis by addressing the reasons why so many people are being left behind. Marginalized groups – women, children, refugees, indigenous peoples, disabled people – are often overlooked, and may face discrimination, as they try to access safe water. Water asserts that "water services must meet the needs of marginalized groups and their voices must be heard in decision-making processes.
Every drop counts. Happy Water Day.
#92/119 Something you take for granted. I know I take water for granted. 119 Pictures in 2019
I dedicate this picture to clean water. Why you say? Weird you say?
Too many people don't realize how lucky they are to have clean water, even I didn't think much of it, until today.
I don't have to walk a many miles everyday just to get a little water to drink, wash myself, my home and clothes...to use in cooking, barely enough, sometimes not even enough.
I'm so thankful, and everyone should be as well, if they have access to clean water.
"Even in our own homes, we use high quality drinkable water for washing our cars, flushing the toilet, watering our plants; excessive? What would happen if we were some day out of fresh water? Countries go to war for oil; would people go to war for water?
We'll always need clean water. It's good to get a reminder every now & then that we can't take our water for granted."

I'm stampolina and I love to take photos of stamps. Thanks for visiting this pages on flickr.
I'm neither a typical collector of stamps, nor a stamp dealer. I'm only a stamp photograph. I'm fascinated of the fine close-up structures which are hidden in this small stamp-pictures. Please don't ask of the worth of these stamps - the most ones have a worth of a few cents or still less.
By the way, I wanna say thank you to all flickr users who have sent me stamps! Great! Thank you! Someone sent me 3 or 5 stamps, another one sent me more than 20 stamps in a letter. It's everytime a great surprise for me and I'm everytime happy to get letters with stamps inside from you!
thx, stampolina
For the case you wanna send also stamps - it is possible. (...I'm pretty sure you'll see these stamps on this photostream on flickr :) thx!

The international observance of World Water Day is an initiative that grew out of the 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) in Rio de Janeiro.
The United Nations General Assembly designated 22 March of each year as the World Day for Water by adopting a resolution.
Two-year-old Ismael Adam receives a drink of water from his kin and caretaker Kariya Mohamed Abbakar, a 50-year-old native of Jebel Saiey, North Darfur, who has been living in the Abu Shouk Camp for internally displaced persons (IDP) near El Fasher for the past 10 years. Mrs. Mohamed Abbakar walks a long distance every week to fetch water from the nearest water point in the camp.

Each year on the 22nd of March it's World Water Day. First celebrated in 1993, the day was established by the United Nations to celebrate the importance of freshwater around the globe.
Over 45% of the world's land surface is covered by river basins, and over 75% of all countries have their boundaries within shared river basins.
All around the world events will be held to celebrate freshwater and promote its sustainability, and every year there is a different theme.
From water and our future to sanitation and water scarcity, the day aims to keep us informed, and in a whole host of different ways!
Around the world there will be an array of events, from musical performances to galas, art shows and seminars.
It looks like 2013 is shaping up to be a bigger and better year than ever for raising awareness, because 2013 has also been designated as International Year of Water Cooperation by the United Nations - so why not get involved? Find out all you need to know by dropping by the official website today!
I shot this photo with the shutter set to 1/2000sec and an aperture of f/4.5 and I used the pop up flash on my camera as it is the only flash I have that is synced. The droplets were made from a rubber glove, with a couple of pin holes in the fingers, suspended above a tray of water.
World Water Day, held on 22 March every year since 1993, focuses on the importance of freshwater.
World Water Day celebrates water and raises awareness of the 2.2 billion people living without access to safe water. It is about taking action to tackle the global water crisis. A core focus of World Water Day is to support the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal 6: water and sanitation for all by 2030.
Groundwater, making the invisible visible
This year (2022), the focus is groundwater, an invisible resource with an impact visible everywhere.
Groundwater is water found underground in aquifers, which are geological formations of rocks, sands and gravels that hold substantial quantities of water. Groundwater feeds springs, rivers, lakes and wetlands, and seeps into oceans. Groundwater is recharged mainly from rain and snowfall infiltrating the ground. Groundwater can be extracted to the surface by pumps and wells.
Life would not be possible without groundwater. Most arid areas of the world depend entirely on groundwater. Groundwater supplies a large proportion of the water we use for drinking, sanitation, food production and industrial processes.
It is also critically important to the healthy functioning of ecosystems, such as wetlands and rivers.
We must protect them from overexploitation – abstracting more water than is recharged by rain and snow - and the pollution that currently haunts them, since it can lead to the depletion of this resource, extra-costs of processing it, and sometimes even preventing its use.
Exploring, protecting and sustainably using groundwater will be central to surviving and adapting to climate change and meeting the needs of a growing population.
History of the Day
The idea for this international day goes back to 1992, the year in which the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development in Rio de Janeiro took place. That same year, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution by which 22 March of each year was declared World Day for Water, to be observed starting in 1993.
Later on, other celebrations and events were added. For instance, the International Year of Cooperation in the Water Sphere 2013, and the current International Decade for Action on Water for Sustainable Development, 2018-2028. These observances serve to reaffirm that water and sanitation measures are key to poverty reduction, economic growth, and environmental sustainability.
Did you know?
Almost all of the liquid freshwater in the world is groundwater.
About 40 per cent of all the water used for irrigation comes from aquifers.
Asia and the Pacific region has the lowest per capita water availability in the world, with groundwater use in the region predicted to increase 30 per cent by 2050.
In North America and Europe, nitrates and pesticides represent a big threat to groundwater quality: 20 per cent of European Union (EU) groundwater bodies exceeds EU standards on good water quality due to agricultural pollution.
