Today I gave an hour and a half RED ONE Digital Cinema Camera Workflow demo to a bunch of broadcast producers, managers and artists at the advertising agency of Goodby, Silverstein & Partners in San Francisco. They're one of the top agencies in the country with clients like Nintendo, Sprint, Comcast, NBA and HP to name a few.
As far as video production, they do everything from high-end web videos for viral marketing campaigns to Super Bowl commercials. So you can imagine how exciting this was for me (and our company, of course) to make contact with an agency of this stature and get on their radar.
They've already used the RED camera on several broadcast spots and are very pleased with the end product. So the reason I was asked to come in was to give a detailed overview of the technology and to demonstrate common workflow practices, so producers working on RED shoots can plan the projects more efficiently while being confident in the process. They were also evaluating the feasibility of using the RED to capture high quality footage for projects destined for the web. Is it cost effective? Is their current pipeline set up to handle this new format? Does the footage scale well to .flv? Those were just some of questions they had.
Everything went smoothly with the exception of a bad firewire 800 connection. I attempted to transfer raw footage from the camera to my hard drive and got no love. Restarting the computer remedied the problem and I was able to resume my demonstration without further issues.
The more I do these dog & pony shows, the better I get. I felt really comfortable in front of this group which quickly grew from the original 20 staffers who rsvp'd, to close to 40 in a standing room only scenario. Everyone seemed attentive and I didn't notice anyone dozing off, which is always a good sign :)
So anyway, it was a fantastic meeting and well worth the day trip to San Fran. I think I made some valuable contacts... and that's the most important part for me!

Tonight I’m taking you to the heart of Cassiopeia: IC 1805, the Heart Nebula. ❤️✨
A vast expanse of glowing hydrogen, thousands of light-years away, where new stars are born… and where the sky seems to remind us that even the universe can take on a “human” shape.
It’s a large H II region (ionized hydrogen) where star formation is actively taking place: inside it stands out the open cluster Melotte 15, which “carves” and shapes the gas through stellar winds and radiation.
