Take the Money and Run, conocida como Robó, huyó y lo pescaron (Argentina), Coge el dinero y corre (España).
In homage to Woody Allen's latest and brilliant film Midnight in Paris which I saw yesterday and totally recommend.
The architecture of Denver during the 1960s was nothing short of stunning. I.M. Pei gave the city a Hyperbolic Paraboloid at the main entrance to a new May D&F department store, downtown. Charles Deaton gave us a futuristic bank in Englewood and a sculptured house on Genesee Mountain. That house is best known as the "Sleeper" house for its appearance in the Woody Allen film. Fans of that film may recognize the Boettcher Memorial Tropical Conservancy seen in this shot. It had an all-too brief cameo in the movie along with a futuristic Catholic church that was used as another background..
Architects Victor Hornbein and Edward D. White came up with this inspired design in 1964. The interlaced concrete arches are a suitable tribute to benefactor Claude Boettcher who made his fortune in the concrete business. The conservancy opened in 1966 and just 7 years later, in 1973, the building was granted Denver Landmark status. The building is a great place to go for an affordable vacation in the dead of Winter, featuring more than 2300 species of tropical plants.
The Bentley and Delahaye designs are also inspired with great swooping curves, like the conservancy building. Somewhat less inspired are those fender skirts on the front wheels. We imagine, neither car had a very good turning radius. We also imagine, we could get used to that.

Felix Mendelssohn (1809-1847)

Jakob Ludwig Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy was a German composer, conductor and pianist born in Hamburg exactly 200 years ago. Like Mozart, he would become a child prodigy and would die young.
Also like Mozart, whose sister Maria Anna (Nannerl) was a great musician, Mendelssohn had an elder sister, Fanny, who was a composer but had her talents repressed because she was a woman. She was the author of 466 pieces, some of which were published by Felix under his own name. It was the case of Queen Victoria’s favourite piece, “Italy”, which was Fanny’s, not Felix’s.
Mendelssohn’s most famous piece worldwide is “Wedding March”, from his “Midsummer Night’s Dream”, based on Shakespeare.
Fanny and Felix would both die in the same year, due to strokes.

A Woody Allen quote memorialized on a plaque in Oviedo Spain.
"Oviedo is Delicious, Exotic, Beautiful, Clean, Pleasant, Peaceful, and Kind to Pedestrians. It's as if it doesn't belong to this world, as if it could not possibly exist ... Oviedo is like a Fairy Tale"
And it is true. Oviedo is the cleanest and nicest city I've ever seen.
Rome, Italy
I thought of that old joke, you know, this guy goes to a psychiatrist and says, `Doc, my brother's crazy. He thinks he's a chicken.' And the doctor says, `Why don't you turn him in?' And the guy says, `I would but I need the eggs.' Well, I guess that's pretty much how I feel about relationships. You know, they're totally irrational and crazy and absurd . . . but I guess we keep going through it because most of us need the eggs.
Annie Hall, 1977

Charlotte Rampling as Dorrie
"It was Sunday, and you-you knew summer would be coming soon. I remember, that morning Dorrie and I had gone for a walk in the park. We came back to the apartment. We were just sort of sitting around. And…I put on a record of Louis Armstrong, which is music that I grew up loving. It was very, very pretty, and…I happened to glance over, and I-I saw Dorrie sitting there. And I remember thinking to myself…how terrific she was, and how much I loved her. And, I don’t know…I guess it was the combination of everything…the sound of that music, and the-the breeze, and, and how beautiful Dorrie looked to me. And for one brief moment, everything just seemed to come together perfectly, and I-I felt happy. Al-al-almost indestructible, in a way. It’s funny that that simple little moment of contact moved me in a very, very profound way."

Hier soir, j'ai profité de l'absence de... tout le monde à la maison, pour revoir Manhattan, tranquille.
J'en profite pour déclarer mon admiration pour Gordon Willis.
The Queensboro Bridge, also known as the 59th Street Bridge – because its Manhattan end is located between 59th and 60th Streets – and officially titled the Ed Koch Queensboro Bridge, is a cantilever bridge over the East River in New York City that was completed in 1909.
It connects the neighborhood of Long Island City in the borough of Queens with Manhattan, passing over Roosevelt Island.
The bridge featured on the iconic film poster for Woody Allen's Manhattan.
"Let's say there was a burning building and you could rush in and you could save only one thing: either the last known copy of Shakespeare's plays or some anonymous human being. What would you do?"
– asks the economics-minded Shelden Flender, a character in Woody Allen's Bullets over Broadway
Me? I'd first enquire about the works of Woody Allen, winner of the most Oscars for screenwriting. Mr. Allen, if you happen to read this and want to surpass the popular perception of the greatness of Shakespeare, invent more words. Start with florgermarger.
The Lexington Candy Shop is a historic luncheonette located on the Upper East Side of Manhattan in New York City. It's known for its old-fashioned charm, classic American fare, and being one of the oldest family-owned establishments of its kind in the city. The shop, which opened in 1925, has retained much of its original decor and atmosphere, transporting visitors back to a bygone era.
