These beautiful early evening clouds allowed the rays from the sun through and above it was the contrail from a jet flying across.

This is a shot from my Archives. I took this shot as I liked the way the mist wiped out all but the sunlight city high rise buildings and the foreground trees.

The Chinese Lanterns that I found growing near our railway track have gone to seed and the result is this stunning lace-like shell with a large red seed inside; this is called a 'Physalis alkekengi Seed'. These plants require a lot of light to grow well.

I watched this bee bury itself deep into this lovely sunflower. For once I did not have to take a hurried shot as it did not fly away.

During our heavy rain and hail storm a few days ago, the sun suddenly came out and there was this beautiful rainbow. The sun also touched the branches of this tree with gold!

(Goldbachstraße in Suhl-Albrechts)

Found this in a local garden; this wonderful bulb was just bursting its seams and about to show forth some beautiful blue flowers. Other flowers made for a lovely Bokeh background.

Taken at the West Midlands Safari park.

Someone put all these beach stones, sticks, feather into a piece of bark on our local beach and set it on a flat rock. It was like a wonderful fall table setting, maybe for a beach picnic. It may well have bee put together by some kids, but it was really beautiful.

A field in Worcestershire.

Everywhere there are new pine cones on the evergreen trees and they make a beautiful fall display. Pine cones are always of a very special significance to me; as far back as my early childhood.

These leaves were turning all different colours in the sunshine.

Someone had stuck a lot of dried Sunflowers on this local garden fence. With today's snow and cold temperatures, they froze.

The Crescent Moon last night was large and actually red, but it did not last long as clouds obscured it. I could not get a better capture through my closed window; I would have liked to have been able to show the red and not just the glow around it.

I took this shot of the full moon yesterday in early evening as it appealed to me in the very pale and somewhat hazy sky and did show the moon landscape also. Later shots were not as clear.

This is from a pot of white lilies standing on my balcony.

Found this very tiny but chunky bird hopping around our neighbourhood's unkempt lawns for 2 days, first thinking he could not fly, maybe he was injured. Eventually I took this shot in front of our apartment building.

Checking on the species, I also saw a similar shot listed as an Oregon Dark Eyed Junco bird. He really was very cute, much more so than many birds I normally see here in our very urban neighbourhood; he really had these great colours. Of course I was happy he was OK and that this hopping around is looking for seeds, not due to an injury.

This pair of Mallard Ducks seemed most annoyed when I disturbed their snooze by taking this photo. They were sleeping on a rock by the water in the sunshine. I can't say I blame them.

Palaestra (Wrestling Hall) was one of the most popular and beautiful architectural public buildings in Ancient Greece. It was an important element of classical culture of Ancient Greece and later consequently of Ancient Rome. There the young people learned to fight and win not only with strength but mostly with technique and intelligence, without causing damages to the opponent's body. Palaestra (Greek: Παλαίστρα) was a site of events and wrestling school, which functioned both independently and as a part of public gymnasia; a palaestra could exist without a gymnasium, but no gymnasium could exist without a palaestra.

In Ancient Messene city, the colonnade of Palaestra complex dates from the 3rd century BC to the 4th century AD. It is an architectural composition of a central courtyard surrounded by Doric stoas and auxiliary rooms. Connected to the Gymnasium, the Palestra was used by Ephebes (young men in military training) and athletes. Ancient Messene was founded by Epaminondas on the foothills of Mount Ithomi in 369 B.C as the ancient capital of liberated Messenia. Its archaeological site is one of most impressive and least visited in Greece. Ancient Messene contains the ruins of the large classical city-state of Messene founded by Epaminondas, after the battle of Leuctra and the first Theban invasion of the Peloponnese. He was an important militarily influential and invented and implemented several major battlefield tactics. The wonderful archaelogical site of the remains of Ancient Messene (also called Ancient Messini), which includes a magnificent stadium, is located near Kalamata in Greece.

For a while I was able to get lots of photos of Monarch Butterflies. This one didn't even budge when I got closer.

Blick zum Hohen Stein

This mottled blue and white petunia blossom had a small visitor, a colourful fly. These blue and white petunia flowers were growing amongst some other flowers in a front garden.

Sometimes you just get dark silhouettes that look awesome against a deep sunset sky. This is what I miss about West Vancouver, BC.

NB: No enhancements made to this photo. When viewed large you can see the faint semblances of the trees and rocks, etc.

A red Asian Poppy bursting out of its bud and ready to bloom. The power of its petals will force it open in no time. Found this in one of our local gardens.
