These photos were taken one week before five of the six wolves escaped. One returned to the enclosure, one was shot with a tranquiliser dart but three had to be shot by marksmen. Unfortunately, an anaesthetic dart takes 15 minutes to take effect and may not work at all in a stressed animal so the wolves that were a danger to the public had to be shot. Very sad, beautiful animals, just doing what wolves do.
This is the alpha female standing over another wolf just making sure that the others understand who is in charge...the other wolf is of course being very submissive. These are two of eight wolves in a captive pack at the Halliburton Forest and Wolf Centre in Haliburton, Ontario, Canada.

Maybe there is hope that the prosecution of wolves will end... apparently the public is beginning to take notice of the harsh lives they are leading thanks to Bush administration policies.
Wouldn't it be amazing in so many way if Palin were brought down by the very wolves she has mandated be slaughtered?
Apparently the Defenders of Wildlife adds against the wolf slaughter are gaining traction and going to be shown just before the debate.

Although referred to as the grey wolf, they do in fact have a number of different coat colours. They can be grey, red, brown, black or even white. The wolf is the ancestor of all breeds of domestic dog; however, a wolf’s tail is straight and does not curl like those of many dog breeds. They also have extremely powerful jaws that can generate twice the downward pressure of a German shepherd’s.
