Middleway, is also noted for its legend of Wizard Clip. Many people still refer to the village as "Clip." In the 1770's Adam Livingston, a Lutheran, moved with his family from Pennsylvania to a farm northwest of present Middleway. Although they prospered at first, some time prior to 1790 strange events began to afflict the family. Unusual noises and voices were heard in the house, crockery was thrown on the floor, and rocks were rolled across the rooms when no one could have done these things. There was a persistent clipping sound and clothes were mysteriously cut into pieces, boots and harnesses were cut up, and the pieces were said to be in a crescent shape. These troubles seem to have continued for several years. Adam Livingston sought help from various Protestant ministers to no avail. Eventually, Adam had a dream in which there appeared a church and a figure dressed in a black robe, whom he later identified as a Roman Catholic priest he saw in Shepherdstown. Following several visits by town priests, Father Cahill and Father Gallitzin, who said prayers and celebrated Mass in the Livingston house, the voices and strange activities slowly ceased. Adam Livingston later converted to Catholicism, and donated about 35 acres of his farm to the Church, which is now a Catholic pastoral center known as Priest Field.

This is the same rock at El Matador as the two images I posted below -- one this one, I moved farther right to get it more straight on. I like how it looks like a wizard's hat.

I did like the ripples in the sand in the earlier images, but the clouds have a little more color in them on this one.

Wizard Island is the result of a volcano inside a volcano. After the eruption of Mt. Mazama blew off its top and collapsed into the caldera that would become Crater Lake, other eruptions took place forming cinder cones on the bottom of the crater. They would all later be covered by water except for the one that is seen in this photo. It was named "Wizard Island" in 1885 by Will G. Steel.

Yes, Crater Lake really IS blue. Really blue! This is wizard island, what's left of the ancient volcano peak.

Older Creation, finally getting pictures

Hardly any photoshop in this. It was raining out, so my students and I went down to the basement and played with a flashlight and long exposures. There was an inch of water on the floor and it was pitch black. Our kind of place!

The old green wizard stepped down from his podium, and swiftly passed Lylas & Thaddeus, ushering them both towards a door to their left. He tapped his glowing staff on the doorknob before turning it. A blinding light and what sounded like a low snarl emanated from the room. Barely opening his eyes, Thaddeus was confused and yet aghast at the sight of a lady dwarf tinkering with her wand. The green-cloaked wizard cleared his throat, a cheerful smile shining under his silver beard, "Ahem, Lady Taiga, we have a new arrival…"

The lady looked up at Thaddeus with a sly smile, then at Lylas and back again, "Ne'er in three moons would I have guess this scruffy one was yours, Lylas. He might be on the thin-side, (lifting up Thaddeus' arm with her wand), but he could be the mage of mastery if he tried."

Lylas laughed, patting his son on the shoulder, " That is our hope, don't let her get to you, son. This is my old friend and sparring partner, the speaker of dragon-tongue and tamer of dragons."

The lady outstretched her hand to Thaddeus, "Taiga Macfarlane at your service. You all arrived just in time, I was just finishing work on my wardrobe."

Thaddeus turned and noticed a tall, oakwood wardrobe with a single door. He marveled at its carved place into the stone wall, and the dragon head looming above. "What's inside it?"

Taiga frowned a bit, "A place behind a closed door is one I can't see, my magic might have conjured it to form, but as for what's inside, I haven't the slightest idea. What I do know is that I used time continuum magic on it, meaning you could be transported to your past, or into a future you haven't seen yet…"

The room fell silent as Thaddeus looked at his father, Taiga, and the green wizard. "I read somewhere that said all wizards need a task to show they're worthy of their wand, let this be mine."

The green wizard nearly choked on his own voice, "That is an audacious undertaking, young man! Your risks far outweigh your chances of returning, let alone your future could be altered…"

Thaddeus took a step towards the wardrobe, his hand on its doorknob. "I know, but if I don't earn my wand, how could I even live up to my destiny?"

Without another word or a glance back at his new wizard family, Thaddeus opened the wardrobe door and stepped inside…

Taiga looked at Lylas with a grin, her hands on her hips, "Well, he's got your stubbornness."

A quiet place where a young wizard lives...

In my opinion it's quite good, mainly because it's pentoganal. I wanted to build a whole dio for it. But there were many reasons why I didn't.

I hope you like it!

This photograph comes from the movie Harry Potter and the prisoner of Azkaban. It is one of my favourite scenes, though it's very short and isn't of any matter to the story. I just like it that the wizard is enjoying coffee and that he is reading a 'muggle' book by Hawking. It is so funny and such a great detail to the movie! The wizard is the UK artist Ian Brown by the way!
