Burford
Lawrence and I proceeded from the Priory to the church in Burford. It is a building full of interest and character, with so many features from all the ages of English architecture there simply is not the space to mention them all here. I was pleased to get close to the Tanfield monument and was able to get behind the iron railing with permission, the work is extraordinary and along with the monuments at Wroxton, Ewelme and Rotherfield Greys must number as one of the best in the county, very little damage.
Simon Jenkins wrote in his “England’s Thousand Best Churches”
The panelled and pinnacled entrance porch has three storeys of chambers, almost as grand as that at Cirencester (Gloucs), and modern statues in its niches. To its left runs the Guild of Merchants Chapel, erected C.1200 as a separate building. It was remodelled and joined to the main structure in the late 15tiI century.Burford's interior is a maze of low arches, surprising vistas, chapels and shrines. The church counted nine separate altars and six incumbent priests at the start of the 16th centUry. After the Reformation, the chapels and chantries were converted for use as family pews and mausoleums. St Thomas's Chapel, betWeen the south transept and porch, became the Corporation Pew. The chantry chapel in the north aisle became the Lord of the Manor's Pew. The large Guild of Merchants Chapel became the resting place for the Sylvesters, among the richest of Burford's 16th-century merchants. The last Sylvester commemorated here died in 1904.In the nave north aisle, a superb classical memorial recalls Edmund Harman (d.1569), Henry VIII's barber and courtier. Harman married a Sylvester after acquiring the local Hospital of St John after the Dissolution. His memorial, completed before his death, carries the first known depiction in England of the Indian inhabitants of the New World, believed to have been copied from a Flemish book. The connection with Harman is unknown, though the intention was probably to indicate the cosmopolitan reach of.the town's trade. Spotlit on the turret wall opposite the south transept chapel is a primitive carved panel dated c.160 AD. It is of three figures and a horse, said to allude to the Celtic fertility goddess Epona. Alternatively it may be a Flight into Egypt or Christ's Entry into Jerusalem, surviving from a Saxon church.The north chancel chapel contains the celebrated Tanfield monument, erected by the wife of Sir Lawrence Tanfield, a prominent judge, in 1628. The couple were unpopular in Burford and, on Tanfield's death, the church refused his widow permission for a memorial, one having already been refused at Westminster Abbey. She was adamant that her husband should have a tomb appropriate to his status, and marched her workmen 'in undaunted.They erected six Corinthian columns, arches,obelisks and the Tanfield coat of arms aboveeffigies of the couple lying in prayer. For goodmeasure, Lady Tanfield added her own verse.So shall I be / With him I loved / And he withme / And both us blessed. / Love made me poet / And this I writt. / My harte did doe it / And not my witt.' The church let them be.Burford was later the scene of greater strife. In May 1649 Cromwell imprisoned a group of Leveller mutineers in the church for three nights, after which they were to be shot. When three had been executed, Cromwell relented and forced the rest to submit to a recanting sermon by their own leader. One of the prisoners, Anthony Sedley, scratched his name on the font. A more drastic assault on the church came in the 19th century with its restoration by Street. After he had already rebuilt the chancel roof, William Morris arrived from nearby Kelmscott to protest. The vicar, W. A. Cass, retorted: 'The church, Sir, is mine and if I choose to, I shall stand on my head in it.' The infuriated Morris later founded the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings.That said, the vicar, or perhaps the architect, was sufficiently moved to refrain from meddling with the nave. The roof was retained but the manorial pew was restored as a chapel of St Peter. Nor could Morris have objected to the use of the young Charles Kempe for the glass in eight of Burford's windows. The west window installed in 1869 portrays the Tree of Jesse and incorporates medieval fragments. It is full of the colours, animated figures and foliage of the Pre-Raphaelite school. Facing it above the crossing arch is a large painted crucifixion by Clayton & Bell in the style of Piero della Francesca.

I really like how soak-off gels allow me to let my nails grow longer. If you have soft nails, like me, you gonna love using soak-off gels.
This time I used Artistic Colour Gloss - 03037 "Purity". Artistic has a very nice color range. I'm also a fan of their gold - 03088 "Your Yacht Or Mine?", 03111 "Charming" and 03053 "With It"

Estaba ansioso porque ella viniera y le acariciara el pelo.
Siempre le habia gustado la suavidad con que lo hacia. Era tan perfecta para todo. Incluso para él era perfecta. Él, que nunca habia creido en que alguien pudiera quererlo. Él, el que se reía con las peliculas de amor, porque le parecian tontas.
Ahora se reía de si mismo. Porque se habia enamorado.
Mom's lower back 9 days after surgery. Mom is recovering from back surgery and will be at New England Rehab in Portland for a good several weeks or more (if medicare will pay that is)
Her recovery will be a long and painful process lasting a year or so. She needs to be in a brace for 3 months for 24 hours a day. She needed this surgery, her three lower vertabrae were bone on bone, but it was a major operation as she had a three tier fusion. Usually only one or two are fused but this was an extreme case. If she didn't have the surgery she would have faced eventual loss of bodily functions and been crippled. It has been a rough past couple weeks withme traveling from Waldoboro to Portland just about every day. I am a single mom so it has been hard and stressful but we are getting through it. I figure documenting it all here on flickr will be good for me. I got the idea from Peaches as she documented Travis's recovery.
