The ColSac III ferry crosses the Wisconsin River between Sauk ("Sack") and Columbia Counties--hence the name of the ferry.

A ferry has been crossing the river here since about 1848. Since 1923, Sauk and Columbia counties have maintained it. It is the last free ferry within the State of Wisconsin.
