Hope is on the horizon with inoculations against Covid beginning to happen. Soon maybe we can enjoy the simple joys of human interaction and camaraderie without fears of infection. I am certainly not sad to bid adieu to 2020! I never cease to wonder at the endless permutations of light, clouds, and sunset.

A variation of my image, posted a few days ago, of the view from the rock platform at Kirribilli, Sydney.

Today's view incorporates the Opera House, whereas the other image included only the city and the bridge. It was a matter of trying to get the best angle with my 16-35mm wide lens, without falling into Sydney harbour, lol.
Photographed last Friday, 14th July, 2023. The winter sunset in Sydney.

No filter. No saturation. This is the Sydney sunset.
But it could be a bit sharper on the top of the city buildings.
Here's another one from my archives I am currently working at, this time from our second journey to Iceland in December 2013. This is a panoramic shot of the mountains surrounding the stunning Hvalfjordur fjord in Southwest iceland.
Mellow winter sunset last night at Seven Sisters near Newhaven. A wonderful late evening walk along those magnificent chalk cliffs.

Sydney harbour.
And here's Alicia Bridges with a re-mastered version of her iconic song 'I Love the Nightlife' from the 'Saturday Night Fever' soundtrack, circa 1978. It was her only hit-song ever. Very disco. Very 1970s.

from my visit at the lake ~ waiting for the sunset on a very mild December day ~ enjoy your Sunday folks
Ullsfjorden fjord near Jaegervatnet after fresh snow fall. Driving these roads with a little car is quite a fun challenge :D
I decided to post this as a less “faded” companion to my previous image, Shadow to my Light. This photo was taken in my neighborhood, on one of those winter days when the weather is cloudy and dreary all day and then the sky suddenly lightens along the horizon and the sun makes an appearance just in time to illuminate a beautiful afternoon sunset.
These unexpected sunsets, in a time of year marked by long nights and skies seemingly perpetually arrayed in endless shades of gray, always spark a sense of joy for me. And I can feel a lightness rising in my heart as I watch the sun determinedly burn its way through the clouds and thread the sky with ribbons of light and color in a triumphant celebration of victory over winter’s gloom.
